The government of Gujarat state has decided that it will stick to old formula for selection of students for engineering and other professional courses. According to the old formula, 60% weightage will be given to the marks scored in Science subjects in the HSC board examination while only 40% weightage will be given to All India Joint Entrance Examination.
This was similar to the formula which the state had when Gujarat Common Entrance Test was in place. The state has recently decided to join the Joint Entrance Examination for admissions to engineering courses in colleges affiliated to GTU and deemed universities. As per the guidelines of the Union ministry of education, it was preferable if the state gives 50 per cent weightage while making merit list to JEE. But it had stated that the weightage to JEE should not be less than 40 per cent.
The written examination will be on 7th April 2013 while the online examination will be held between 8th and 25th April 2013. JEE is compulsory for those who are seeking admissions in engineering colleges.
