8th Concert of Aura-Aurangabad: Kathak Dance performed by Sampoorna Academy (SPACE)


Under the Cultural Tourism Initiative of MAHAGAMI GURUKUL, the 8th concert of Aura-Aurangabad was held on November 20, 2015.  KATHAK dance presented by Sampoorna Academy (SPACE) from Bangalore was greatly appreciated by the audience.

The program started with Namaami Shameshan-This composition has verses from the Rudraashtakam composed by Sri Tulsidas, which extols many qualities of Shiva. Rudrashtakam in jhaptaal and Raaghamsadhwani. Choreographed by Guru Marami Medhi.



Next was Teentaal, a purely technical number. This piece focuses on the nuances and beauty of nritta, exploring the rhythmical compositions in 16 beats. This was followed by Ghanghor baadal: A narrative composition based on the birth of Lord Krishna. Music & Choreography by Pandit Birju Maharaj.

Sheshafana: This saadra is Bindadin maharaj’s composition where through the ekahaarya abhinaya the story telling aspect of Kathak is extolled. The narrator takes many roles describing the war scene between Lord Ram & Ravan. Choreography by Guru Parwati Dutta.



Dhrupad, Shashadhara: Describing the various attributes of Lord Shiva. Choreographed by Guru Parwati Dutta. The performance concluded Tarana: Tarana, an enchanting piece with fast and complicated rhythmic pattern of    footwork. The spirit of ecstasy and virtuosity is depicted and celebrated in this sequence. Music by Joy Prakash Medhi. Choreography by Anjana & Shruthi Gupta.
