95th Foundation Day Celebrated with Fervour by Jamia Millia Islamia, Dr. Jitendra Singh graced the occasion
The Talimi Mela which was organised on the occasion of the Foundation Day of Jamia Millia Islamia was scheduled between 29th to 31st October for the year 2015. Jamia Millia Islamia celebrated its 95th Foundation day on 29th October 2015. The Talimi Mela is a traditional function where the entire Jamia family constellates and celebrates together.
The chief guest Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office-Personnel, Public, Grievances and Pensions and minister of State for Development if North Eastern Region along with Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia received the “Guard of Honour” by the NCC cadets which was followed by the Flag Hoisting ceremony in the forecourts of M.A. Ansari Auditorium and functions organised by the Jamia Middle School.
The Talimi Mela is organised in such a way that all the departments of the university get a chance to showcase their talents through their various projects and case studies. It gives to its students an opportunity to bring out their best.
Various stalls had been put up. Department of Biotechnology had exhibited models explaining the DNA fingerprinting, Tumours and Cysts. Department of Psychology explained through their projects the Theories of Personality and Intelligence. Department of Mechanical Engineering brought their hard work on the roads in the form of FM1 cars and an eco-friendly rickshaw. Department of Dentistry showcased their multispecialty bus.
Nothing ends well without food. A number of food stalls were put up serving the visitors of the Talimi Mela. The Stall that fascinated me the most was the stall put up by Afghanistan, who through the traditional afghan clothes promoted their culture and “DASTARKHAN” a food stall wholly organised and managed by women. It is an excellent idea to promote employment and empowerment.
The NSS volunteers devoted 3 days in maintaining the decorum of the campus. The Talimi Mela brings among its students a sense of solidarity and belonging and breaks the monotony of every day college life. Prof. Ved Prakash, Chairman UGC was the chief guest for the valedictory function held on 31st October 2015.
On the very first day of Foundation Day Jamia Cultural Committee organized Grassroots Innovation Exhibition, Exhibition On “MAKING OF JAMIA: LIFE & WORKS OF DR. ZAKIR HUSAIN” , Foundation Day Function , Inauguration of Talimi Mela , Inauguration of Book Fair , NCC show of activities, Exhibition of Paintings, Sculpture, Photography and Print Making, Play Rehearsals and last program of day was Qawwali by Nezami Bandhus.
