The Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry released a notification saying that it is now mandatory for students from all colleges and universities to have Aadhaar Card or undergo Aadhaar authentication to avail the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme.
Students who don't have the Aadhaar Card and are already getting scholarships must apply for the card latest by June 30, 2017. However, the rule is not applicable to the students from the state of Jammu & Kashmir.
In another notification released by the ministry, the school students must also apply for the Aadhaar Card latest by June 30, 2017, if they wish to obtain the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship. This, however, is not applicable to students in Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir and Assam.
As per the HRD Ministry officials, the decision of making Aadhaar card a compulsory document has been taken to bring in greater transparency and make the process of granting scholarship benefits to students smooth. Earlier, to avail scholarship, students needed to produce multiple documents. However, now they just need their Aadhaar card.
Till the time the Aadhaar cards are allotted to the students, they can avail scholarships by submitting documents like Aadhaar enrolment application, Aadhaar enrolment ID slip, PAN card, voter ID card, etc.
