MSBSHSE recently issued a statement, according to which Aadhaar card is mandatory for the students filling Class X and XII examination form. Read about the statement and requirements in the article below.
Students who appear for Class X and XII board exams in February/ March 2018 will have to get their Aadhaar cards made before the examination as it has been made mandatory for all the students. As per a recent statement published by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), students are required to fill their Aadhaar card number in the class 10th and 12th examination application forms.
To ensure that students don’t get their application forms rejected and get their Aadhaar cards on time, the board started intimating students and parents about the new rule by issuing a statement on September 23, 2017. Class X and XII board examination application forms are filled in December every year, for which they get enough time to get their Aadhaar cards if they had started applying for it in September itself.
G.K. Mhanane, chairman of MSBSHSE said, “We are intimating students and parents much in advance, to give them time to apply and get it. However, students were being asked for Aadhaar number in application forms for last two years, it was not mandatory. This year, we are making it mandatory since we feel we have given them sufficient time to get it. Aadhaar would help us detect bogus candidates, who fraudulently appear in lieu of some other students. The number is important since we intend to link all students with Aadhaar and track their educational progress.”
Talking about the students who don’t have Aadhaar card yet, G.K. Mhanane said that students won’t be stopped from applying for the examinations, but they will be encouraged to get the same.
Though there are mixed reactions to the new mandate of having an Aadhaar card to apply for Class X and XII examination, it is a good move by the government. There are countries using different identification systems and by making Aadhaar card mandatory, the government has taken a good step to becoming part of the system.
