Sri Ram College of Commerce on Monday held its commemoration ceremony celebrating its 90th anniversary. Chief Guest and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley unveiled the financial literary cell of the college named Vittshala.
Jaitley praised the students, faculty and college for recognising the importance of financial inclusion, emphasising on its importance in the country. Yogesh Tyagi, the vice-chancellor of Delhi University also praised SRCC for its systematic initiatives.
Vittshala is a financial literary cell as well as a centre for community engagement. It is set up by SRCC with a special focus on financial resources through decentralise communication. Vittshala is founded by a group of students and teachers under the guidance of a senior faculty at SRCC, Anil Kumar. Its primary objective will be organising workshops, discussions, seminars and community engagement. This way, financial literacy will be promoted and investment, insurance, banking and saving prospects will be identified. Experts and official from reputed firms like SBI, LIC India, and AICIL are training the student interns under Vittshala.
While praising the students and the college, FM Arun Jaitley also indicated that the banking sector is seeing major changes after the success of Jan Dhan Yojana which helped open over 24 Crore bank accounts pan India.
Jaitley also highlighted the importance of government initiatives like Mudra Yojana which issues loans to small-scale entrepreneurs, integration of insurance services that includes health and crop insurance, and economic independence for women.
