Regional associations accompanied with students were enthusiastically participated in the Matribhasha Diwas at BITS Pilani.
Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS Pilani), Hyderabad campus celebrated Matribhasha Diwas (Mother Language Day) on March 3, 2016 with much fervour.
Regional associations like Brundaavanam Telugu Samiti, Gitanjali Bengali Association, Maharashtra Mandal, Baithak, Sangam, Gujarati Association and Utkal Samaj - each comprising students from a particular linguistic community participated enthusiastically to present the glory of their respective languages and cultures.
They displayed posters and made PPT presentations detailing the origin, evolution and the current state of the language, eminent personalities from different fields who contributed to the growth of the language, famous texts, places of linguistic significance etc.
The day was inaugurated by Professor V. S. Rao, the acting Vice-Chancellor of the Institution and the Director of the Campus by lighting a lamp. The posters and presentations were assessed by a group of faculty members from the Campus. While Brundaavanam, the Telugu students’ club, took away the first prize for their beautiful and sensible display, Baithak and Sangam, the two clubs representing Punjabi-Urdu-Hindi and Hindi student population respectively, won the second and the third prize.
The celebration was a true representation of the linguistic and cultural diversity of India.
