CAT 2016 registration date has been extended until September 27, 2016. IIM Bangalore extends the date to facilitate students who are still in the process of completing their application process.
CAT 2016 aspirants who could not register in time or those who faced technical glitches during the application process have a good news. IIM Bangalore, which is the conducting body of CAT 2016, has extended the registration process for 5 more days. Earlier, the registration was open from August 8, 2016 until September 22, 2016. Now, candidates can register until September 27, 2016. They must note that the registrations will close beyond 5 PM on September 27.
Professor Rajendra K Bandi, convener of CAT 2016, explained that the extension was done primarily to help students who are still in the process of completing their application forms. The CAT council received plenty of requests from such students and hence the decision was taken to extend the date to September 27, 2016.
Some sources also state that another reason for the extending CAT 2016 registration date was the decline in the number of applicants. As of September 22, 2016, a total number of 208,000 students registered for CAT 2016, which is much lower than the 218,664 students who registered for CAT 2015. Even though the HRD ministry announced an increase in the intake at the IIMs, the CAT exam has received a subdued response. The numbers are expected to rise after the extension of the date.
The registration process closes at 5 PM on September 27, 2016. Candidates would be allowed to download the admit cards from the official website of CAT from 1 PM onwards on October 18, 2016. Candidates can download the admit cards until the last day before the exam. The CAT 2016 exam is scheduled to be conducted on December 4, 2016 in two sessions.
