The CAT 2017 registrations are going on in online mode. IIM Lucknow will keep the CAT registration 2017 portal active till 05.00 pm on September 20, 2017. The candidates willing to appear for Common Admission Test (CAT) this year must apply for the same as early as possible. The CAT 2017 aspirants are advised not to stretch the filling of CAT application form 2017 till the last days. CAT 2017 is scheduled to be held on November 26, 2017. It is a computer based test where 100 questions will be asked. These questions will comprise of both, MCQs and non-MCQs, which will be asked from 3 sections – Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) and Quantitative Aptitude (QA).

Registration for CAT exam 2017 can be done only in online mode. The applicants must use any of the following browsers to process the CAT application form filling and submission.

  • Internet Explorer (Version 7 – 11)
  • Mozilla Firefox (Version 14 – 47)
  • Google Chrome (Version 20 – 52)

Details of CAT 2017 Application Fee

The amount of CAT 2017 registration fee is Rs. 1800 for non-reserved category candidates and Rs. 700 for reserved category candidates. However, there is one good and one bad aspect attached to the CAT application fee 2017, which are as follow –

  • Good thing about CAT 2017 exam fee - It doesn’t attracts GST or any other taxes
  • Bad thing about CAT application fee – You cannot skip the Bank charges, which may cost you as low as Rs. 13 and may go beyond Rs. 51, depending upon the mode of payment.

Rs 18.00 per transaction for HDFC, ICICI, AXIS and SBI
Rs. 15.00 per transaction for rest of the banks

Cash Card & Wallet

1.75% of the value of the transaction.

The candidates can pay CAT 2017 application fee in online mode only using Credit/Debit card, Net Banking, Cash Card or Wallets.

Important Points which every CAT 2017 Applicant Must Know

  • Read the instructions given at the beginning of form filling carefully and adhere to it in order to avoid errors
  • Also, check the CAT 2017 eligibility criteria before applying for the exam.
  • Fill all the details marked with “*” (asterisk) as these are mandatory details.
  • Fill the form completely with correct and valid details in the form.
  • Name of Candidate - Write your name as it is mentioned on your documents like class 10th/12th certificates. The official CAT registration guidelines say ‘candidate’s name should be the same as on your 12th/Diploma/Degree certificates’.
  • If you have a changed name, you may enter your changed name but need to produce supporting documents for change of name at the time of examination, interview and admission.
  • Date of Birth – Fill this detail very carefully as it cannot be modified once the application fee will be submitted. Format for filling up the date of birth is DD/MM/YYYY in CAT 2017 registration and a candidate is not required to write it since the calendar icon has to be used to select the correct date.
  • Converting Academic Grades to Percentage - If you have only grades instead of marks and percentage on your marks/grade sheet then obtain a certificate from the Board/Institute/University specifying the equivalent marks and fill the same in online CAT 2017 application form.
  • Fill Percentage of Marks in Form - CAT 2017 online application form provides column with ‘nnn.nn’ space to fill up your percentage of marks.  The first three ‘nnn’ can be used only when you have scored 100% marks otherwise you should use only 2 digits if your percentage of marks is anywhere between 45% and 99.99%. You must insert the percentage upto 2 decimal digits as provided for in the CAT 2017 online application form. There is no need to prefix ‘0’ before writing your percentage of marks as it will not accept it.
  • Work Experience – It should be entered in months calculated till July 31, 2017.
  • CAT Test Cities – Choose 4 test cities in order of preference and the CAT exam centre allotment will be done once the registration process will conclude. The details of allotted CAT test centre will be mentioned on the CAT admit card of the candidates.

Mistakes CAT 2017 Applicants Must Avoid Making

Though every aspirant tries his/her best not to make mistakes while filling the CAT application form 2017 but still unintentionally they end up making some or the other mistakes. However we are listing below some of the commonly made mistakes which CAT 2017 applicants must avoid making.

  • Correct Login Details – Enter your correct and valid Email Id and mobile number in the CAT 2017 registration form for creating a CAT 2017 login credentials. These details cannot be edited later on so be very careful while filling these.
  • Correct Serial Number of Caste - SC/ST/OBC category candidates or PWD candidate in General category must go through the list of serial numbers of different categories given in the application form and mark the correct serial number of the caste/tribe applicable.

How to register for CAT 2017?

All the applicants must arrange the below mentioned things and information before beginning with the CAT 2017 registration –

  • Jot down your class 10/12/degree/diploma marks
  • Details of Work Experience
  • Scanned colored passport size photograph having dimensions of 30mm X 45mm. Format should be in a .jpg or .jpeg format and the file size should not be more than 80kb. The photo should not be more than 6 months old and should have a white background. Keep 2 copies of this photograph saved with yourself as you will need it later for affixing on the CAT admit card 2017.
  • Scanned image of candidate’s signature having the dimensions of 80mm X 35mm. Format should be in a .jpg or .jpeg format and the file size should not be more than 80kb.
  • List of IIMs where the candidates wishes to apply
  • Other certificates as applicable for uploading

Filling Details in CAT 2017 Application Form

There are 3 steps involved in online registration for the test and these steps are listed below.

Step 1 – Register to receive the User ID & Password

Here, the candidates will have to fill the following details –

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Email Address – User ID for logging in will be sent on this email ID
  • Mobile Number – Password for logging in will be sent as SMS on this number only

After entering the above mentioned details, rewrite the image as shown in the “Captcha box” and click on “I Agree” in the declaration section. Submit these details then and within few minutes, you’ll receive your respective CAT 2017 login details.  

Step 2 – Login at the official website

Now that the candidates have their login details with them, they must login at the website as an “Existing User” for accessing and filling the application form.

Step 3 – Form Filling

On successful login, the candidates will be able to access the application form. Here, the candidates will be required to fill details in 5 sections, which are as follow –

  • Personal Details
  • Academics
  • Work Experience
  • Details of Programmes you wish to study at IIMs
  • Payment of Application Fee

All the candidates will receive a confirmation email stating the successful submission of your CAT 2017 Application within a few minutes of its submission. The candidates can view the application summary by logging in. They can also download and print the application form.
