CAT 2017

CAT 2017 – IIM Lucknow has commenced with CAT 2017 registration on August 9. CAT application form 2017 is available online, on CAT 2017 official website, www.iimcat.ac.in. Candidates having Bachelor’s or professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA), passed with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of SC/ST/PWD) can appear for CAT exam 2017. Also, students pursuing final year of graduation and meeting CAT 2017 eligibility criteria can take this exam. Interested and eligible candidates must complete CAT 2017 application process till 05.00 pm, on September 20. Rs. 1800 and Rs. 900 is CAT exam registration fee 2017 for non-reserved and reserved applicants respectively. Every year, Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) conduct Common Admission Test (CAT) on rotational basis. This year, IIM Lucknow has been given the responsibility of conducting CAT MBA exam.

CAT 2017 notification was released on July 29, which revealed the CAT 2017 exam date as November 26, 2017. Coincidentally, this exam date clashed with IIFT 2018 exam date due to which, the IIFT MBA (IB) entrance exam 2018 date has been rescheduled on December 3, 2017. CAT 2017 will be conducted across 140 cities of India on a single day and in two sessions, morning and afternoon. Admission to MBA, PGDM, PGP, Executive programs, Fellow programs and other post graduate management courses will be granted on the basis of CAT offered by 20 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and over 100+ Management Institutes of India.

August 9 - Online CAT 2017 registration starts

August 3 - IIFT 2018 and CAT 2017 exam date clash issue resolved. Exam date of IIFT MBA (IB) exam postponed to December 3 to avoid the clash.

August 2 - IIFT comes forward to resolves the exam dates clash issue

August 1 - IIFT entrance exam and CAT aspirants send request letters to concerned exam conducting authorities to solve the date clash issue.

July 29CAT Notification 2017 released by IIM Lucknow. It was an early release compared to the speculated date, which was July 30, 2017. The exam notification came with no major surprises except the CAT 2017 exam date being similar to that of IIFT 2018 entrance exam. Otherwise, there was no change in the exam pattern, duration, application process, eligibility norms etc. But the CAT 2017 registeration fee saw a minor hike for all categories and the number of test cities rose to 140.

CAT Eligibility Criteria 2017

The eligibility criteria for writing IIM CAT has been devised by IIMs, which has remained fixed over the years. These eligibility norms must be satisfied by every candidates willing to appear for CAT MBA exam. Failure in meeting the CAT 2017 eligibility criteria will lead to disqualification of candidature at stages of selection, as IIMs verify the eligibility at the time of admission. Therefore, all the candidates planning to take CAT 2017 must ensure that they fulfill the eligibility norms of CAT as mentioned below.

  1. Anybody having a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized College/University or an equivalent qualification as recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India is eligible to sit for CAT.
  2. The candidates pursuing third year of graduation, preparing to appear for final exams or waiting for result announcement of final exams can also take this management entrance test.
  3. Candidates who have professional degrees such as CA/CS/ICWA are also eligible to apply for CAT 2017.
  4. All the above mentioned candidates, if belonging to General category must note that they should obtain a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in their Bachelor/Professional degree. However, this minimum percentage of marks for SC/ST and other reserved category candidates is 45%.
  5. There is no age restriction to appear for Common Admission Test.

CAT Reservation Criteria 2017

IIMs, Government Institutes and majority of other B-schools follow the reservation norms as laid by Government of India. Certain percentage of seats is kept reserved for granting admission to candidates belonging to reserved categories, such as SC/ST/NC-OBC/PWD. At the time of CAT 2017 online registration, candidates will be required to provide their reservation status and also upload respective certificates. The proforma and forms for these reserved category candidates are available on the official website of IIM-CAT 2017.

CAT 2017 Application Process

Important Points to be kept in mind regarding CAT 2017 Registration 2017 

1.  Read the instructions carefully before commencing with form filling.

2.  Editing or modification of any details cannot be done in the CAT 2017 application form after the payment of application fee.

3.  Candidates making mistakes in filling registration details in the first step will have to register afresh with a new email ID.

4.   Details marked with “*” (asterisk) must be mandatorily filled, without this the application form of CAT 2017 will not be submitted.

CAT Application Fee 2017

The CAT exam fee has increased this year too. However, the hike in the fee is very minor but from past three year, the CAT application fee is being increased. For submitting CAT 2017 application form, the candidates are compulsorily required to pay a non-refundable application fee. The amount of CAT 2017 registration fee can be paid in online mode only.

CAT Application Form 2017

The CAT exam registration 2017 has started from August 9 and will end on September 20, 2017. The form is avilable only in online mode and the applicants have 43 days to apply for the CAT 2017 exam.

CAT Application Form Correction 2017

The candidates are always advised to fill the details very carefully in the application form. Also, to verify and cross-check the same before final submission as option to edit them is not provided. Like last year, the applicants will be provided with a CAT 2017 application form correction window this year too, during which they will be able to make changes in few predefined fields. However, we still suggest and strongly advise the students to fill the details correctly in the form so that no editing is required.

CAT Registration Trends – Past 10 Years

Compared to year 2007, 08, 09, the number of CAT aspirants seemed to be declining every year. In last 2 years, the CAT registration crossed the 2 lakh mark, out of which a very high percentage of candidates actually appear for the exam.

Now that IIMs have increased the seat intake, have refined the admission criteria and selection process, CAT 2017 is expected to witness increase in the registration as well as test takers count. CAT Exam Centres 2017

CAT 2017 MBA entrace exam will be conducted across 140 cities of the country. Various CAT 2017 exam centres will be set up in each city for accommodating the lakhs of exam takers. Last year, this management entrance exam was held in 138 cities.

  • The final list of CAT exam test cities was released along with the notification and is available on IIM CAT official website 2017.
  • Applicants will have to fill 4 preferences of CAT exam cities 2017 in the application form. The exam conducting body then allots one of these cities and the exam centre to appear for test.
  • The details of allotted CAT 2017 exam centre will be provided in the admit card of the candidates.

CAT Admit Card 2017

Admit card of CAT is an important document which must be furnished by the candidates on the exam day for getting permission to enter the test centre and sit for the exam. On 18 October 2017, the admit card will be issued to the duly registered candidates. It will be available only in online mode for the candidates to download. CAT 2017 Id and password will be required to download and print the admit card.

  • The CAT hall ticket 2017 will provide details of the candidates such as their name, category, application no., date & slot of exam, details of allotted test centre and other exam day guidelines.
  • Along with the admit card of CAT exam 2017, the candidates will be allowed to carry a valid photo Id proof and scribe affidavit (if required) on the exam day.
  • The candidates are advised to keep a copy of CAT admit card saved for future usage, as the link to download the same will be disabled after the completion of the exam.

CAT Exam Pattern 2017

Along with the notification, the CAT 2017 exam pattern has also been unveiled. The test pattern unfolds the basic CAT 2017 exam structure, such as number of sections or questions, details of these sections, type of questions, mode of exam, duration etc. In 2015, major changes were made to the CAT test pattern. However, IIM Bangalore chose to follow the same in 2016. Now, IIM Lucknow also opts to make no changes in the CAT exam pattern 2017 and follow it like last year.

CAT Preparation Tips 2017

There is no definite timeline or secret mantra for CAT preparation. Any one determined to crack CAT 2017 just needs to start preparing for the same today. One has almost 4 months to prepare for this coveted exam. Blend of hard work and smart work will help you qualify this exam with a high percentile. Before commencing with the preparation of CAT 2017, take a mock test, in order to understand your current aptitude level. CAT Sample Papers 2017

Sample papers or model CAT test papers must be used by the candidates to enhance their preparation. The CAT sample papers are prepared by experts and coaching academies keeping in mind the current exam pattern and syllabus. The candidates can purchase the sample papers and practice papers of CAT 2017 exam in online and offline market. Regular practice from the sample papers will boost the confidence of the candidates and also they will get familiar to the test pattern.

CAT Previous Year Question Papers

Toppers and experts have always advised referring to the previous year CAT question papers for preparation of the exam. Procuring the CAT question paper now is not feasible as it is a computer-based test. However, the question papers of IIM CAT exam before the year 2009 can be easily accessed. The candidates can collect the CAT previous year papers from the internet and practice them for having an idea about the kind of questions which are asked in the exam, the topics from which these are asked, their difficulty level and more.

CAT Mock Test 2017

CAT mock tests are online test series devised specifically for the candidates preparing for this exam. IIMs will release the official CAT mock test on the official website in the month of October. Only the registered candidates will be able to access this official mock test of CAT 2017 exam. Various private coaching Institutes and renowned education websites also provide CAT mock tests. The students can purchase them online and write those tests to analyze their level of CAT preparation at different stages and time intervals.

Mock test will help the candidates in identifying their weak and strong areas, so that they can prepare for the test effectively. The experts have always been of the view that the candidates should not just write mock tests but invest their time in reviewing the same.

CAT Result 2017

The result of CAT 2017 will be announced in the second week of January 2018. Last year, the result of CAT exam was announced on January 9, 2016  by IIM Bangalore. The date for announcemnt of CAT result 2017 is expected to be Juanuary 8 or 9, 2018. 

The result will be available online on the CAT 2017 official website in the form of scorecard. For checking the CAT exam result, the candidates will have to login to their student account using their respective Id and password. Also, the overall CAT 2017 percentile will be send to the candidates via SMS on their registered mobile numbers.

The CAT 2017 result will disclose the following –

  1. Scaled score of each section
  2. Total score obtained
  3. Section wise percentile
  4. Overall percentile

Last year, due to certain technical glitches, the candidates were able to access the result before its official announcement. After CAT 2016 result analysis, it was observed that the scaled score of 200.49 converted to 99.95 percentile, which is said to be the highest of that year.

CAT Score Card 2017

CAT result will be made available in the form of CAT 2017 score card. The candidates can download it online only. It will not be sent to the candidates through post or email. The scorecard of CAT 2017 will be December 31, 2018.

CAT Cutoff 2017

CAT 2017 cutoff is the minimum marks which will be set up the IIMs and other B-Schools, based on which they will shortlist candidates for the further rounds of selection. This cutoff is determined after taking into consideration mainly the number of candidates who took IIM admission test and the difficulty level of the exam. Both, overall and sectional cutoff applies for admission to IIM.

  • IIM CAT 2017 cutoff will be of two types – qualifying and the actual cutoff. The qualifying cutoff will be the basic marks which should be obtained by the IIM aspirants in order to be considered for the PI shortlisting. This minimum cutoff will be released for each IIM in their respective admission criteria.However, the actual CAT 2017 cutoff will not be officially announced but is applied for selecting the deserving candidates out of the shortlisted ones.
  • The actual CAT cutoff for old IIMs range around 97 to 99+ percentile and for the new IIMs, it is bit on the lower side.

Around 4000 seats are expected to be filled in 20 IIMs using the CAT 2017 score. Apart from IIMs, there are hundreds of Management Institutes in India which grant admission to MBA and other post graduate management courses on the basis of this CAT entrance exam score. IIM Admission Criteria 2018 - 20

IIMs have strated releasing the admission criteria providing the detailed selection process for shortlisting and granting admission to the MBA aspirants. As of now, IIM Ahmedabad has announced its selection criteria and soon other IIMs will also provide their admission norms. The minimum CAT 2017 percentile, points for work experience, academics, gender and other elements of the screening process will be stated in the IIM admission criteria. The IIM aspirants can go through these to analyse and understand their standing in the competition and selection.

IIM Selection Procedure 2018 – 20

The selection process of IIMs mainly comprises of 1st shortlisting, which is done on the basis of CAT score and percentile. The candidates meeting the basic and actual IIM CAT cutoff are called for Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The attributes mentioned in admission criteria are then taken into consideration for the 1nd shortlisting.

The final admission to IIMs will be granted strictly on the basis of merit and CAT 2017 percentile. The admission status of the candidates can be checked on the respective official websites of IIMs in the month of January 2018, after the declaration of result.

CAT Important Dates 2017

The candidates aspiring and preparing to take CAT exam this year must keep a regular check on the important events and the dates related to this exam, in order to avoid missing any deadline. To make this tracking task effortless, we have listed the tentative CAT 2017 schedule here in the table below.
