The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the class 10th and 12th exams will be conducted in the month of March 2018 as against the plan to advance the exam to February. Apart from the schedule, the exam conducting body is also planning to bring down the duration of the final exams, which usually goes for around 45-50 days.
Talking about the decision to conduct exams in March 2018, a senior CBSE official stated, “We are hoping to start the exams by March first week. Due to Holi the exam might not start from March 1 but these things are being finalised. We are trying to conduct the exam in a shorter time period to give the evaluation process more time.”
Shorter exam period will not only release students from a longer exam pressure but will also help the authorities bring forward CBSE board exam result 2018 dates.
The proposal of conducting board exams in February was laid in June. The objective of the proposal was to give examiners more time to check answer sheets and make the evaluation process error-free.
In its proposal, the CBSE said, “The purpose is to have more time for evaluation and bring quality. The board will involve all stakeholders in the process.”
Apart from the exam schedule, the board has also made an announcement that from next year, class 10 students will not get an option to choose between the board exam and school assessment as the board exams will be made compulsory.
This year, around 1.1 million candidates have registered CBSE class 12th exam against 1.067 million in 2016, which shows a direct rise of 2.82%.
