CLAT 2018, Important Dates, Application

CLAT 2018 will be conducted on May 13, 2018, by The National University of Advanced Legal Studies Kochi (NUALS Kochi) at around 65 examination centres across India. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level entrance exam conducted every year to help candidates get admission in undergraduate, postgraduate and integrated law programmes. The exam is organized by 18 participating national law universities on a rotational basis. MNLU Mumbai and MNLU Nagpur are the newly added universities in the list of participating universities. As CLAT 2018 will be conducted by NUALS Kochi, the exam conducting body is expected to release CLAT 2018 notification in December. CLAT 2018 examination process will most probably start from the first week of January 2018. Apart from 18 NLUs, around 25 other law schools will also accept CLAT 2018 result. So the candidates who fail to get a seat at any of the NLUs can apply for admission at these law schools. CLAT 2018 Changes

Some changes have been introduced in CLAT 2018 by the exam conducting body. Candidates should also check these before filling CLAT 2018 application form online.

  • There was no maximum age restriction to apply for CLAT before 2016, but a limit has been defined now. Candidates who want to apply for undergraduate law programme through CLAT 2018 should not be more than 20 years of age as on July 01, 2018. This is applicable on Unreserved/NRIs/NRI Sponsored categories candidates.
  • Maximum age limit is 22 years for SC/ST/OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) category candidates.

CLAT 2018 Important Dates

CLAT exam is conducted on second Sunday of May every year. Keeping it same, NUALS Kochi has announced CLAT 2018 exam date. CLAT 2018 will be conducted on May 13, 2018, at various examination centres across the country. Official CLAT 2018 notification will be out in December 2017. CLAT Eligibility Criteria 2018

CLAT eligibility criteria 2018 include the set of conditions specified by CLAT committee for the candidates. Applicants need to satisfy all the conditions without any exception to be eligible for CLAT 2018. Candidates should carefully read and understand CLAT 2018 eligibility criteria to avoid any chances of rejection of their application. Eligibility criteria of CLAT 2018 explain conditions like minimum academic qualification, nationality, age, the minimum percentage of marks etc.

UG Qualifications:

  • For undergraduate programmes, a candidate must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board with minimum 45% marks for unreserved categories and 40% for reserved categories.
  • Candidates who are still appearing for the final examinations can also apply.
  • As per the new update, maximum age limit is UG programmes through CLAT 2018 is 20 years for unreserved categories while for reserved categories it is 22 years as on July 01, 2018.

PG Qualifications:

  • For postgraduate programmes, a candidate should have passed LL.B or an equivalent (five-year) integrated degree from a recognised board with a minimum of 55% marks. Minimum marks required by candidates from reserved categories are 50%.
  • Those who are in their final semester can also apply.
  • There is no age limit for the candidates filling CLAT 2018 application form for PG courses.
  • All the candidates must note that they have to provide their educational certificates at the time of admissions, without which the admission procedure will not be carried out.

CLAT Application Form 2018

CLAT was made online in 2015. So 1995 onwards, complete process from filling the application form to downloading admit card, taking the exam and result, every aspect of the exam started taking place in the online mode only. Candidates who meet CLAT eligibility criteria 2018 can only apply for the exam. CLAT application form 2018 along with information brochure will be released in January 2018.

CLAT application form 2018 will be filled online only. Candidates will have to upload scanned copies of their documents like a photograph, signature, educational certificates etc. while filling the application form. Candidates should enter every detail very carefully as a minor mistake can lead to rejection of CLAT 2018 application form.  No application form will be accepted after the last date, so candidates should submit their CLAT application form along with CLAT application fee 2018 before the last date.

Steps to apply for CLAT 2018:

  • Visit official website of CLAT and apply for ‘New Registration’
  • Fill the form by providing the required details like name, address, date of birth etc.
  • Fill the security code and submit the form to complete registration process
  • Next step after registration is to login while using provisional ID and password received during registration process
  • Fill CLAT 2018 application form by providing all the details
  • Upload scanned copies of documents in the prescribed format
  • Pay CLAT 2018 application fee through debit/ credit card, net banking or Bank Challan
  • Download a copy of the duly filled form and take a printout of the same for future reference

Online application process for CLAT 2018 will complete only after you pay application fee. CLAT 2018 application fee varies for candidates from different categories. Candidates can pay CLAT application fee 2018 both in online as well as offline mode.

CLAT Exam Pattern 2018

NUALS Kochi is the exam conducting body for CLAT 2018. Though there are no major changes in CLAT 2018 exam pattern, candidates should still check it once to give right direction to their exam preparation. CLAT exam pattern 2018 will be different for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. However, there are some similarities between the exam pattern of CLAT for LLB and LLM courses, which have been given below.

Exam mode: Both the exams will be conducted online.

Exam duration: 2 hours

Language of question papers: English only

Nature of questions: There will be objective type (MCQs) in CLAT 2018 for both LLB and LLM programmes.

Marking scheme: Each question will be of 1 mark.

Negative marking: Every wrong answer will attract a penalty of 0.25 marks.

CLAT Syllabus 2018

CLAT 2018 question paper for LLB will have a total of 200 questions divided into five sections. The English section will comprise of Comprehension Passages and Grammar. General Knowledge and Current Affairs section will contain questions of national and international importance. Mathematics syllabus will include elementary level Mathematics taught till class X. The Legal Aptitude section will test the Research Aptitude and Problem-Solving Ability. Logical reasoning section will test candidates based on their Reasoning Ability through pattern identification, analogies, etc.

CLAT syllabus 2018 for PG course covers Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence and other law subjects including Contract, Torts, International Law, Human Rights and Criminal Law.

CLAT 2018 Exam Centres

CLAT 2018 will be conducted online at various examination centres in different cities across India. CLAT 2018 is expected to be conducted at around 63 exam centres of the previous year. The list of CLAT 2018 exam centres helps candidates pick the best location as per their preference and make a correct choice while filling the application form. Candidates will be updated about their examination centres through CLAT 2018 admit card. Once the exam centre has been allotted by the exam conducting body, no request for change will be entertained.

CLAT Admit Card 2018

CLAT 2018 admit card will be available for download from the third week of April 2018. Candidates can download the same from the official website of CLAT. They must note that the authorities will not send the admit card via e-mail or post. CLAT 2018 admit card contains all the important details of the candidate including name, date of birth, registration number, exam centre location etc. All the details must be cross-checked before downloading.

Candidates have to carry a colored copy of the admit card along with a valid photo ID proof to the exam centre without which they will not be allowed to enter the exam hall.

CLAT Result 2018

The exam will be conducted on May 13, 2018, and the result will be released in May 2018. Candidates can view the CLAT 2018 result on the official website. They need to enter the Login ID and Password in order to view the result. In case there is a tie between two or more students, the one having higher marks in Legal Aptitude will be given the first preference. If it’s still a tie, the candidate with higher age will be given preference.

CLAT Counselling 2018:

The CLAT 2018 merit list will be released shortly after the results are declared in May 2018. The counselling procedure will begin from the first week of June 2018. The counselling will be centralised and the seat allotment will be as per merit-cum-preference basis.
