On International Girl Child Day, COEP will launch various initiatives for the girl child in India.
A girl executes numerous roles in her life, and never gives up. She has within her the courage, dominance, simplicity and the love that can conquer the whole world. She is special. Our country was built by strong women who broke the walls of societal norms and defied stereotypes. That is why the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) is initiating a Social Awareness Program - PAAKHI through MindSpark 15’ which aims at addressing the issues faced by the girl child in India and across the globe.
October 11 is celebrated as the International Day of the Girl Child. This is why, on the final day of MindSpark 15’, the technical fest conducted by COEP, scheduled to take place on October 9th till October 11th, COEP will celebrate the girl child and talking about the outcomes of various initiatives of Paakhi. The Keynote Lecture on for MindSpark 15’ will also be dedicated to Paakhi.
To drive this programme, COEP has already initiated:
Pune Learns is an NGO which aims at teaching under-privileged children basic English and Communication skills. COEP organised a drawing competition, along with other activities, for children from the local communities. This event took place on the 13th September, 2015 from 10:30 am onwards at COEP. The event was well received and the children had a great time interacting with each other and with the volunteers. It also served as an opportunity for them to learn, express themselves and make new friends. Learning with some fun is always the best way to impart education to kids.
Future PAAKHI initiatives include:
Teach for India: This is the Indian counterpart of Teach for All. A workshop on self-defense will be organized by MindSpark’15 for the girls of schools under Teach for India.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan: Here, girls/ women from the villages which come under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan will be given a chance to perform during MindSpark’15.
