Supreme Court cancelled UGET 2016 on 6th May stating that all private medical and dental colleges must consider NEET 2016 score to fill their seats.
Consortium of Medical College, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka recently cancelled the COMEDK Under Graduate Entrance Test 2016 that was to be held on 8th May 2016, Sunday. The exam was revoked after Supreme Court directive to medical and dental private colleges for considering NEET 2016 scores to select candidates. The SC orders also stated that no private colleges or private/deemed universities would be permitted to conduct any exam for admission to MBBS or BDS. However, this order did not apply for the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics tests also scheduled for 8th May.
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)
Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.) conducts National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical courses at under-graduate level throughout India. After being scrapped off by the Supreme Court due to opposition from several states, it was re-introduced on 28th April, 2016. NEET has replaced medical examinations like AIPMT and DUMET. There were 14 medical and 23 dental colleges participating in COMEDK that would now accept candidates based on NEET 2016 scores. More than 1.20 lakh candidates had applied for the medical/dental colleges under COMEDK.
About UGET 2016
In the process to find deserving candidates, Consortium of Medical College, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka planned to conduct a fair and transparent Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) through which the candidates would be selected based on merit. Following the Supreme Court order to cancel BVP CET MBBS, SAAT, KLEU AIET and PIMS exams, AICET annulled the UGET 2016.
