Delhi University Colleges Offering Hostel Facility

For an outstation regular student in, the availability and quality of hostel facility often decide enrolment choices. As per the trend, outstation students prefer continuing their education from the safety and convenience of a hostel room. Eligibility Criteria:

Delhi University Colleges with hostel facilities adhere to an elaborate, stringent and transparent intake process. Though it may vary from one institute to the other in certain ways, the core of the allocation process remains more or less the same. Few of the mutual elements in hostel allotments find mention below.

  • Each of the Delhi University Colleges with hostel facilities rolls out a separate prospectus for the hostel, which is accessible subsequent to the second cut-off list. The candidate needs to fill it and submit it, as per the time prescribed by the particular college. The selected candidates will be informed well in time via email notifications. The hostel intake is finalised only upon deposition of hostel charges.
  • Much like the enrolments, the hostel allotments in all Delhi University Colleges with hostel facilities are also merit specific. It implies that the candidate’s performance in the intake exam will be decisive for boarding allotments for entry-level candidates. Moreover, the aspirant has to secure one of the top three positions in semester exams to stake claim for a hostel accommodation for the entire duration of the programme.
  • The candidate should consider applying only if he/she is not a resident of Delhi. The colleges may cancel the allotment even if the candidate’s parents are settled in Delhi.
  • The candidate needs to be a full-time student of the Delhi University Colleges with hostel facilities. Part-time students do not get hostel facility outright, as they are usually employed and can afford rental accommodation.
  • The institutes make it mandatory for the candidate to furnish a character certificate from the previous institution issued within 6 months before applying.
  • Delhi University Colleges with hostel facilities do not entertain ex-students’ requests for hostel accommodation.
  • The colleges also comply with reservation regulations. In the said arrangement, they reserve 15% of the total hostel seats for students belonging to Scheduled Castes and 7.5% for candidates of Scheduled Tribes. With 3 percent reserved seats, the physically challenged students are also a beneficiary of the quota systems applicable across all colleges affiliated to DU. However, merit is the base of allotments of the reserved seats.
  • Delhi University Colleges with hostel facilities offer a limited number of seats for every course, which further intensifies the competition.

Hostel Charges:

The hostel charges are subject to the discretion of Delhi University Colleges with hostel facilities. As such, an anomaly in fee structure is evident across all colleges. However, the hostel fee breakup is not very different, as all institutes charge room rent, utility charges, and resident facility fund, along with annual charges, furniture and fixtures. Nonetheless, few institutes may also include visitor’s room charges, medical provision charges, and crockery and utensils charges in the hostel fee structure.
