Delhi University M.Sc Application

If you are interested in pursuing the Master of Science programme at DU, you should be aware of the way you need to apply for the desired course in your preferred subject(s). Following are some significant aspects of submitting your application:

·         The process of Delhi University M.Sc admission for the academic session 2017-2018 will start on May 31, 2017.

·         All the eligible candidates will have to submit their applications through online mode only. Candidates from all categories, including sports and ECA, Kashmiri migrants, defence, and PwD need to follow the same online registration and application procedure while going for Delhi University M.Sc admission. The online registration is mandatory for all applicants applying for postgraduate programmes.

·         Candidates registering and submitting their applications will need to upload their documents in the prescribed formats. Hence, they should be ready with the self-attested, scanned photocopies of the required documents, which include the following:

o   A passport-size photograph

o   A scanned signature

o   An identity proof like Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license, voter’s identity card, passport or college identity card

o   Copy of class 10 certificate

o   Copy of caste certificate, if applicable

Admission Process

·         Modes of Admission: Candidates applying for Delhi University M.Sc admission will be selected based on an entrance test. However, as per the previous year’s admission criteria, there is also a merit-based admission that is only given to the existing students of Delhi University. Depending on their educational status, candidates have the choice of selecting the mode option right when they fill in the application form.

·         Syllabus of Entrance Test: Candidates appearing in the entrance exam for Delhi University M.Sc Admission should follow the syllabus for B.Sc prescribed by the University of Delhi. They can also check the syllabus provided by the respective department on the official website of DU. Seats Occupation: Candidates eligible for direct admission will be chosen based on the merit list. The list will be prepared based on several factors, such as the number of seats available for direct admissions in each faculty and course, as well as the number of applicants for the same. There are 50% of the total seats, which are filled through direct admission, depending on the cut-off announced for Delhi University M.Sc Admission. The rest 50% of the seats are filled through the entrance test held for non-DU students. The overall performance of these candidates is judged as per their performance in the written test, interview and group discussion. The seat allocation to candidates will be done according to merit while keeping under consideration the reservation criteria for varied categories.

·       Final Admission: The selected candidates meeting the cut-off are invited for the counselling and allotted seats as per their application. Candidates can approach the specific college allotted to them in order to get the admission. They will need to get their original documents verified at the college and will have to pay the course fee for completing the process of Delhi University M.Sc Admission. These documents will include their graduation mark-sheet, category certificate, two self-attested passport size photos and other documents as required by the specific institution.


While the specific eligibility criteria are different for the M.Sc programmes in different subjects, below-mentioned criteria are the basic eligibility conditions that all the applicants for need to fulfil:

·      Candidates should be graduates in their specific subject areas from a recognised university. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply.

·         Candidates need to score a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate for a B.Sc (H) integrated course or a minimum of 60% marks in the main subject. (This condition may vary as per the subject and candidate category.)

·         There is no age bar for candidates to apply for admission in M.Sc programmes at DU, with the only exception being the courses, which are regulated by the Bar Council of India and Medical Council of India etc.

·         Programme Fee -The course fee will vary as per the college you are taking admission in. The average fee per year may range from INR 6300 to INR 25, 600.


The University of Delhi declares the cut-offs for each subject in M.Sc or every department that offers M.Sc programmes. Hence, the cut-off may vary for each course and faculty. It may also vary for each candidate category. If you are able to meet the cut-off, you can go for the counselling at the university. You will be allocated an M.Sc course and college per your choices and seat availability.
