DU Admission 2015: Bad News for Students who did not Study Maths in Class 12th

Students, who did not opt for maths as a subject in Class 11th and 12th, might be at a loss if they are aiming to get admissions in Delhi University.

Admission in Delhi University will be tougher for candidates who had opted out of maths in Class 12th. Several courses in Delhi University (DU) require the students to have studied Maths as a subject in Class XII, failing which they are not eligible for admission in those courses.  

Maths is an essential subject for admission to the two most sought after courses at DU, B.Com honours and Economics honours. Though, students can exclude Maths while calculating their best of four subjects, but clearing the maths exam in class 12th Board is a must. In addition to these, there is a list of courses which will not be accepting students who have not given their Maths examination in class 12th.

Students who wish to opt for Computer Science also need Maths as a subject in Class 12th. The basic eligibility for Computer Science is Maths, one language and two other academic subjects. A minimum of 50% aggregate marks are required for a course in Mathematics Statistics. 

Courses like B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics, Chemistry Electronics Instrumentation, B.Sc. Mathematical Sciences, B.Sc. Physical Science and Polymer Science also require the aspirant to have studied maths in their Class 12th. Students who wish to opt for Polymer Science must have opted for Physics, Chemistry and Maths in their Board exams, without which the admission will not be granted to them.

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology or Bio Tech are the subjects required for getting admission into B.Sc. (Hons) Food technology and B.Sc (Hons) Bio- Chemistry. The students will get selected depending on their aggregate of Physics- Chemistry- Maths (PCM) or Physics- Chemistry- Biology (PCB). The applicants who choose PCM as a part of their best four will get a relaxation of 3%.

Management courses like Bachelor of Management Studies, BA Business Economics and BBA in Financial and Investment Analysis, also require Maths in Class 12th in addition to clearing the entrance test as the basic eligibility for admission to these courses.
