Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies Rankings 2018 are out and there is a good news for India. Yes, India has the second highest number of institutes in the raking with a tally of 42 institutes. The rankings were released for 42 countries of the world and China leads the tally with the highest number of 63 institutes being ranked in the list.
There is a considerable increase in the number of Indian institutes been ranked in the list last year, which was just at 27. Times Higher Education ranking considered more than 350 universities this year as compared to 300 last year.
Among the Indian institutes listed in Times University Rankings 2018, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru is ranked highest at 13 this year as compared to 14 last year. This is not all as the several other institutes improved their rankings. IIT Kharagpur has jumped 26 positions up to be ranked at 45, securing a place in the top 50 universities, whereas the IIT Bombay maintains its position at number 26.
Further, in the Times University Rankings 2018 NIT Rourkela is an institute that has gained the maximum as it jumped 57 positions to clinch a joint No 138 position. This owes much to the improvement in research influence and citations. Additionally, Tezpur University has climbed 41 places to break into the top 100 institutes at a joint 99th place, which, again, owes to the improvements made in the teaching environment as well as research influence.
Well, we all know that the coin has the other side too. In this case, a majority of the institutes that ranked last year have slipped in their rankings. IIT Madras and IIT Delhi are no more in the top 50 group. India remains the third most represented in the top 200, which is led by China and followed by Taiwan.
