Errol D'Souza has been appointed as new Director at IIM Ahmedabad by the committee formed under Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of IIM-A society, Have a look.
Society of IIMA has appointed Errol D'Souza as new interim director of IIM on Wednesday. He is the Prof. in economics at the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A). Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of IIM-A society, announced that D'Souza would be the director-in-charge of the Institute, effective from September 2, 2017. Former director Prof Ashish Nanda gave notice in April due to some personal reasons. After his resignation, a committee was formed under Birla to find a new director for IIM-A. Nanda has quit the post on September 1.
In an official statement, IIMA stated that "Prof Errol D'Souza has been appointed as director-in-charge for six months or till the appointment of the regular director. D'Souza was most likely to be appointed as interim director along with a few other faculty members of the institute, including Prof Ravindra Dholakia; Prof Arvind Sahay; Prof Neharika Vora; Prof Rakesh Basant and professor at Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business in the US, Vijay Govindarajan.
D'Souza is a professor of economics and the dean of faculty at the IIM-A. He studied economics and statistics at the University of Mumbai. He did his Ph.D. as a University Grants Commission national research fellow from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has worked on academic committees of the University Grants Commission, the Indian Council of Social Science Research and has been associated with the Planning Commission and the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities, including a member of the technical advisory committee on monetary policy.
He has managed several other appointments such as the India Chair Professor at the University Sciences Po in Paris, IFCI Chair Professor at the University of Mumbai, as a Visiting Professor of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University, and as a Visiting Professor at the Turin School of Development of the ILO and as an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore.
