A new feather has been added to its cap by laying the foundation stone of girl’s hostel for Maitreyi College.
August 26, 2016 will always be a very important day in the history of Maitreyi College
. The college had the ‘Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of Girls’ Hostel’ in the college premises.
Prof. Yogesh Kumar Tyagi, Vice Chancellor of Delhi University was welcomed by the Principal, teachers, students’ union, NCC group of the college, and the students. The ceremony kick started with lighting of the lamp by the chief guest. Sarasvati Vandana, sung by Riyaaz, the music society of the college added the extra flavour to the auspicious beginning.
The gathering then proceeded to the seminar room where chief guest, Prof Tyagi (Vice Chancellor) Prof Indraneel Das Gupta, (Chairperson of Maitreyi College) and Mr. Vinay Gupta, (Dean of Examination Delhi University), were warmly welcomed by Principal Dr Savita Dutta and President and Vice President of the Students’ Union.
The principal remembered how arriving to this milestone, was a long path to walk. Sometimes plans were not approved and grants had to be returned, unutilized. But she expressed her gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his relentless guidance and support. She proudly announced the beginning of something so special. The hostel would provide accommodation to approximately 100 girls. Rooms on a sharing basis would be provided to the differently abled students.
The guests for the day gave their best wishes and motivating thoughts to the gathering. They wished the students luck for their new academic session and encouraged them to soar higher. Prof. Tyagi extended a warm welcome to the fresher’s, to the DU family. He expressed how he views hostels as something that gives a sense of security and safety. He motivated the engineers and architect involved in the construction and design of the hostel to give in their 100% and finish the tasks assigned to them with utmost sincerity.
Later, the gathering moved to the construction site where the chief guest officially inaugurated the construction of the hostel. The architect showed the prospective design of the hostel and shared his ideas and views. The chief guest closely analyzed it and congratulated him for the same. The ceremony ended with interaction of our chief guest with the outstation candidates and letting go off tricolor air balloons by the guests, staff and students.
The institute extended a special thanks to all those for putting in their time and support into this specially to Prof. Tyagi. This is definitely going to be a new benchmark of greater heights in the history of the college!
