Students who have qualified for GATE can easily land themselves a job in the best PSU’s or Public Sector Undertakings. Working for a PSU has its own advantages.

The job is not only lucrative with handsome salary but offers many other benefits such as free medical insurance, retirement benefits, easy to get loans, performance based incentives etc along with social status.

Most PSUs choose to recruit candidates through 3 ways:

  • By conducting their own examinations,
  • by shortlisting candidates on the basis of their GATE scores or
  • by recruiting candidates from the premier institutes in the country such as IITs and the IIMs

For positions that require technical knowledge PSU’s like BHEL, Indian Oil Corporation, NTPC, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (there are PSUs totalling 217 in number) use GATE score to select candidates.

A job in PSU ensures you keep in touch with exciting engineering advances while ensuring job security and advantages of a government salary.

Companies are offering higher salary packages to master in engineering students as compared to bachelor in engineering students. After joining M.Tech. at IITs and IISc, students can aim at hefty salary packages, depending upon specialisation.

During placement drive technical companies (like Google, CISCO, TATA, Skoda, Maruti, LG electronics, Siemens, Samsung etc) are coming for campus placement in reputed universities like IIT’s, IIIT’s, NIT’s, Vellore, PEC, DCE, Thapar etc.

These days’ companies are more inclined towards ME/M.tech students during placements. More jobs in R&D departments are generally offered to GATE qualified candidates as compared to BE/B.Tech students.
