INK Makers brings together the best and brightest of Manipal University
Josh Radnor, who plays Ted in the popular American Sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ interacted with young INK Makers from Manipal University at INK Live 2015 in Mumbai recently.
INK Makers or young individuals interested in exploring new innovations and technologies across the spectrum of science, engineering, art and design also met other INK Live 2015 speakers, including Arunabh Kumar, Founder & CEO of the entertainment network called The Viral Fever, and Dr Balamurali Ambati, the world’s youngest doctor, among others.
The students proudly displayed several innovative prototypes they had built, including a ‘Power Assisted Stretcher’ for hospitals designed by Team Spearheads. Unlike a conventional stretcher which requires three or four people to operate, this stretcher can be operated by just one person. “Our aim is to make the maneuverability of stretchers in hospitals a lot easier, safer and efficient,” said a member of Team Spearheads.
INK Live also hosted interactive workshops, discussions and other fun-filled activities for the students. A workshop on ‘Broadcast yourself on YouTube’ by Satya Raghavan, Head of Entertainment, YouTube India, gave students a deep insight into how to build their own brand on YouTube and leverage the most out of the popular video site.
‘The Drum Circle’ workshop with Dharavi Rocks, a band comprising young slum dwellers and rag pickers from Dharavi, was another popular event.
“INK gave us a platform to meet real heroes and be inspired. We received productive feedback from these achievers on our prototypes and got inputs on how to go about funding, refining our prototype further, and so on. Apart from that, INK Live helped us break away from the conventional classroom learning setup and gave us the room to think creatively and reinvent ourselves", said an INK Maker.
“The INK experience was wonderful and listening to the inspiring speakers was great learning. The platform provided for school and college students by INK is amazing and I hope more students become part of this INK Movement. I cannot wait to be back next year!” said another youngster.
INK and Manipal University recently came together for INK Makers Program, an initiative to celebrate invention and innovation in every possible aspect of daily life.
