IBPS PO Prelims 2017: Last Minute Preparation Tips

Here are the topic wise preparation tips for IBPS PO 2017 exam:

English Language

As this section evaluates students’ command over the English language, your basics must be clear. Reading the newspaper on a daily basis can really be helpful as it builds up a strong vocabulary and efficient comprehension skills. Reading newspapers, blogs, magazines, articles improves your grammar as well. Since the exam is on the verge, devote your time to revise grammar rules, sentence structure, word order rules etc.

  1. I’d suggest you solve as many sample papers and mock tests as you can and brush up your basics of English language. You may refer to the practice memory based papers of SBI 2017 and previous years’ question papers of IBPS PO as well.
  2. One of the best ways to go over this section is to use the method of skimming for reading comprehension.
  3. While taking mock tests, always keep the track of time and make sure you don’t waste your time on a single question.
  4. Don’t hustle and try to attempt all the questions at one go. Rather, focus on your accuracy and attempt those questions you are confident with. Since there will be a negative marking of the ¼ mark for each wrong answer, make sure you don’t make unnecessary mistakes in the wake of hurriedness.
  5. Complete this section within 15 minutes at maximum.

Quantitative Aptitude

Being the most time-consuming section, the Quantitative Aptitude segment has always been one of the toughest sections that give anxiety to students. This section comprises of questions on Data Interpretation and topics from the arithmetic section, which makes it even harder to score marks for amateurs. However, if your basics are clear, this section can be very scoring as well. The more questions you solve, the better your chances will be to ace the section.

  1. As mentioned above, your basics must be clear. Since this section requires a lot of practice to become an expert, try to solve as many questions based on Quantitative Aptitude as you can.
  2. There might be some chances that a particular question could take more of your precious time, hence, avoid getting stuck on a single question for too long.
  3. Again, this section also requires accuracy to score maximum. Hence, I’d suggest you keep your focus on quality instead of quantity.
  4. Since Data Interpretation section comprises of questions involving more calculations, always pick those questions first that require less calculation and are comparatively easier.
  5. The arithmetic miscellaneous portion and word problems are the topics in which you can score high marks. Hence, do not ignore this section and begin with the topics you are the expert at.
  6. Do not spend more than 20-25 minutes or half an hour at max on this section.

Reasoning Ability

This section evaluates your logical reasoning and general intelligence. The section is getting included with more number of puzzles with each passing year. Moreover, the complexity of the reasoning ability section is increasing as well. Besides, the computer aptitude section has been included in reasoning section only.

  1. Since the number of questions in puzzle form is increased, you must be aware of your selection of the question. Make sure to select the questions that would not take enough time at the initial period of the commencement of the exam.
  2. If you stuck with a question for more than 5 minutes, skip it and move the next one.
  3. Take extra care while reading the questions in this section as students often get confused while attempting the reasoning ability section.
  4. Brush up questions related to blood relations, order and ranking, direction section etc via online sample tests, previous years’ question papers etc.
  5. Since this section includes various types of questions, you need to solve as many questions as you can to get familiar with the logic and tricks.
  6. What you need to be more careful about is that you must not sacrifice accuracy in the wake of attempting a high number of questions.
  7. Try to finish this section with 20 minutes.
