A Guest lecture was delivered by the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU)
A celebration took place at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) campus, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi on the huge occasion of 30TH Foundation Day celebration on November 19, 2015.
A special lecture was delivered by the Prof. Girish Chandra Tripathi, Vice Chancellor; Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi on Higher Education: Changing Scenario. Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, Prof. Sushma Yadav has presided the function
During the lecture, Prof. Tripathi lectured about the higher education and which are the area we need to focus on making changes in the higher education. Some of the areas are mentioned below:
- Skilling India
- Spearheading the Soft Skills Revolution
- Responding to Societal Imperatives: Access, Equity and Quality
He also said to increase economic growth new invention and advanced knowledge should be promoted in higher education. He also added that “one should promote the Quality of research as we are moving towards shaping knowledge workers and relationship workers for the future. In this context, increasing university-industry partnerships such as those we have mentioned would translate research into applications yielding substantial economic value. Leveraging the strengths and opportunities of the knowledge economy would be of immense significance.”
On addressing the foundation day, Prof. Girish Chandra Tripathi recommended reformation in the 3+2 higher education system. BHU Vice-Chancellor Girish Chandra Tripathi believes that the higher education system is an "outmoded construct" and there is a need to reform the 3+2 education system.
According to the BHU VC, current institutional structures do not look appropriate for fulfilling the needs and requirements of the. He said that the higher education system of our country is becoming obsolete and we need to make some serious changes in it.
Tripathi also pitched for establishing a connection between the higher education system and our ancient heritage and culture as well as strengthening accreditation and quality assurance mechanisms.
"We need to actually define 'what education is' and 'how education can work' on a one-planet basis. India has one of the highest student-teacher ratios in the world, directly impacting the quality of education delivery.
Except all this, various kinds of activities & programmes were organized on the grand occasion of 30TH Foundation Day, which includes
- IGNOU signed MoU to take a lead in initiating activities in collaboration with the NCPSL for the study and research in Sindhi language, literature and culture," said IGNOU’s Vice Chancellor.
