Students pursuing PGPM programme will now be able to apply to any foreign university. Find out to know the scoop!
Indian Institute of Management, Trichy’s postgraduate programmes in management (PGPM) has been declared equivalent to the master’s degree of an Indian University for the purpose of admission to higher studies. Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has certified this by allowing PGPM students from IIM Trichy to take up higher studies in foreign universities and apply for government jobs as their PGPM qualification would be treated on par with master’s degree.
IIM Trichy is the eleventh IIM to be set by the HRD Ministry that has three programmes:
- Two-year full-time residential PGPM
- Full-time residential fellow programme in management (FPM) for doctoral candidates
- Two-year post graduate programme in business management (PGPBM) for working executives
IIM Trichy has finally managed to settle the unfinished matter on the PGPM programme equivalence with master’s degree. Good news for students, it will help them apply for universities abroad and has opened gates for them to pursue higher education outside India.
This proposal for equivalence was sent to AIU and this decision has made lives of students interested in pursuing higher studies a lot easier. This matter was placed before the Equivalence Committee at its meeting held on January 5, 2017 and later in the meeting of the governing council held on January 9, 2017. The proposal was cleared only because IIMs are treated as premier institutions under HRD ministry and any student passing out of these institutes must have the leverage to pursue higher education abroad.
