IIT Indore M. Tech Admission

IIT Indore is among eight new IITs set up by the HRD Ministry and ranks 16th in India. This institute of national importance offers M.Tech and Ph.D programmes in engineering as well as M.Sc and Ph.D programmes in humanities and basic sciences. Candidates seeking admission to the M.Tech programme should familiarise themselves with the various criteria and other important information before applying. Details for the same are given below.

IIT Indore M.Tech Programmes on Offer

Students seeking IIT Indore M.Tech Admission can choose from three specialisations. They include Communication and Signal Processing, Production & Industrial Engineering, and Material Science and Engineering.

Note: The institute will also offer Electrical Engineering with VLSI Design and Nanoelectronics beginning AY 2017-18.

IIT Indore M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

Each specialisation has certain eligibility criteria that aspirants must fulfil before applying for IIT Indore M. Tech Admission.

Production & Industrial Engineering: Candidates will need to have a B. Tech or B.E degree in Production/ Industrial/ Mechanical/ Mechatronics/ Automobile Engineering/ Manufacturing, Materials and Metallurgy, and a valid GATE score in Production and Industrial Engineering (PI) or Mechanical Engineering (ME).

Communication and Signal Processing: Candidates must have a B. Tech/ B.E. in Electronics and Instrumentation/ Computer Science and Engineering/ Electronics and Communication/ Electrical/ Telecommunication/ Information Technology, and a valid GATE score in Electronics and Communication (EC).

Material Science and Engineering: Candidates should have a B. Tech/ B.E. in Metallurgy/ Material Science/ Chemical Engineering/ Automobile Engineering/ Electronics/ Mechanical/ Electrical OR a master’s degree in Applied Electronics/ Material Science/ Chemistry/ Physics or its equivalent, and a valid GATE score in the relevant field.

Irrespective of the specialisation chosen, all candidates applying for IIT Indore M. Tech Admission need to have a minimum 60% marks (Gen/OBC) or 55% (SC/ST) in the qualifying examination or a first class degree. IIT graduates need to have a CPI/CGPA of minimum 6.0 (Gen/OBC) or 5.5 (SC/ST) on a scale of 10. If the scale is other than 10, the minimum CPI/CGPA must meet corresponding proportional requirements.
While GATE qualification is a requirement for all candidates, IIT graduates with a CPI of 8.0 or above, candidates who are sponsored full-time (SWF), sponsored part-time (SWP), or who are from the defence forces (DF) are exempted from GATE qualification.

IIT Indore M.Tech Admission Categories

There are four categories for IIT Indore M. Tech Admission. They include –

• Eligible candidates sponsored by an R&D organisation or an industry with work experience of a minimum of 2 years as SWF or SWP
• Candidates from the DF category
• MHRD Teaching Assistantship
• Permanent employee of IIT, Indore with the work experience of a minimum of 2 years at the institute under the Institute Staff (IS) category

How to Apply for IIT Indore M.Tech Programme

The application procedure for IIT Indore M. Tech Admission is given below. Candidates should follow the systematic process to avoid unnecessary application problems.

• An application fee of INR 800 must first be paid prior to applying online. It should be transferred to the following bank account and the subject of the online payment must cite “M. Tech Application Fee” –

• Once the fee is paid, candidates need to apply online and mention the transaction ID of the fee on the form. Those applying for multiple M. Tech programmes will have to fill separate forms and pay the respective application fees.

• The filled form will need to be downloaded and printed. A recent photograph along with self-attested required documents, the transaction slip of the online fee payment, a copy of valid GATE score and the signed application form have to be mailed in an envelope to the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, PACL Campus, 113/2-B (opposite Veterinary College), Village Hernia Khedi, Indore-Mhow Road, Indore - 453 446, Madhya Pradesh.
Important Note: The envelope should mention APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION IN (name of the programme and discipline) for AY 2017-18

• Candidates under the categories of SWF, SWP, DF, and IS will have to submit a sponsorship certificate, NOC, and certificate of study leave in the prescribed format available on the institute website. They will also need to submit salary slips of the last six months.

IIT Indore M.Tech Selection Procedure

Selection for IIT Indore M. Tech Admission is done on the basis of GATE score or a personal interview/ written test.

IIT Indore M.Tech Fee Structure

As of 2016, the admission fee for general/OBC candidates was INR 30350 and INR 25350 for SC/ST. Candidates who have received admission offers and who have accepted the same are strongly advised to check the institute’s website for fee revisions if any.

IIT Indore M.Tech Information for SW and IS

There are certain rules for sponsored candidates (SW) and institute staff (IS) looking to enrol in PG programmes. The rules may be revised so candidates should check with the institute before applying.

• Part-time candidates are not entitled to receive fellowships/stipends for the entire duration of the academic programme.
• Part-time SW candidates must complete the coursework on a full-time residential basis.
• IIT Indore reserves the right to cancel or renew the admission to the PH programme of SW and IS candidates in case of any change in employment.

IIT Indore M.Tech Important Dates

IIT Indore M. Tech Admission for 2017 is almost open and aspiring candidates can soon submit their applications after fulfilling all the eligibility criteria. Online applications begin from the 1st week of April 2017 and the last date for submission is the last week of April 2017. The last date for receipt of hard copies of the application is the 1st week of May 2017. Candidates will be shortlisted in the 1st week of June 2017 while counselling and admissions begin from the 4th week of June 2017.
