IIT Joint Admission Test (JAM) is a national level examination that is conducted by IISC or IITs for admission to M.Sc., Joint M.Sc. - Ph.D., M.Sc. – Ph.D. The IITs and IISC provide high quality education in their respective disciplines. IIT JAM 2017 is slated to be conducted on February 12, 2017 (Sunday). Candidates can now apply online until October 13, 2016 on the official website.

IIT JAM 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Interested candidates applying for IIT JAM 2017 must fulfil the following eligibility criteria-

  1. Candidates should have completed graduation from a recognized university or institute with at least 55 percent aggregate marks (in case of general category).
  2. Applicants belonging to SC/ST and PWD category will need to secure at least 50 percent aggregate marks to be eligible for the exam.
  3. Candidates who are appearing for the final examination of their bachelor’s degree can apply for IIT JAM.
  4. Both Indian and Foreign candidates can apply.

IIT JAM 2017 Application Process

  1. Candidates can apply for the IIT JAM 2017 examination through online process.
  2. Open the official website, http://jam.iitd.ac.in/index.php.
  3. Click on the Apply Now option and fill all the required details in the prescribed format.
  4. Make sure you have an active email ID and phone number. When you register, the verification message and email will be received on your registered phone and email ID respectively.
  5. Attach your scanned coloured photograph, signature and a caste certificate (if applicable) once you have filled all the other important details.
  6. Once you have filled the application form and attached all the important documents along with the form, you can submit it (online). Candidates may note that you do not need to send the forms via post.

IIT JAM 2017 Exam Pattern

  1. The IIT JAM 2017 exam for all the papers will be computer based (online mode).
  2. The duration of the examination is three hours.
  3. The medium of the test paper is English only.
  4. There will be 60 questions carrying 100 marks.
  5. The paper will be divided into three sections A, B and C.
  6. Section A will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), section B will have Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and section C will have Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions in the paper.
  7. For all the unattempted questions, no mark will be given and there is no negative marking.
  8. There will be a provision of a virtual calculator; hence, candidates cannot bring their own calculators in the exam hall.

IIT JAM 2017 Syllabus

IIT JAM 2017 examination syllabus has gone through some changes. The syllabus of all the papers according to these changes will have subjects including Biological Sciences (BL), Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Geology (GC), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH).
