IIT Jammu to Start Classes from 2016-17 Session

The institute will operate from a temporary campus within Jammu city under the mentorship of IIT Delhi.

Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu (IIT, Jammu) will start its operations from the 2016-17 session from a temporary campus within Jammu city under the mentorship of IIT Delhi.

The total intake in the 1st year will be 90, 30 each in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and Department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India on 1st May, 2016 in the presence of Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh, Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister and Ms. Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Education, Culture, Tourism and Horticulture.

This has paved the way for the transfer of land of the actual site measuring 159 hectares at village Jagti, Tehsil Nagrota at Jammu for setting up IIT Jammu. The construction of Transit Campus spread over 25 acres within the actual site will be starting shortly.

The total covered area of the Transit Campus is approximately 2 lakh sq. ft. to accommodate 600 students with all modern facilities and is expected to be completed before the start of the next session (2017-18).
