Dept of Mining Engineering, IIT Kharagpur to conduct a short term course on Stability and Design of Slope and Dump in Opencast Mines from 15th-17th Sept
The Department of Mining Engineering, IIT Kharagpur is organizing a short term course on Stability and Design of Slope and Dump in Opencast Mines from 15th to 17th September 2015.
Geo mechanical activities are gaining importance due to its significance progress in improving safety and productivity of opencast mines. The implementation of geo mechanics principles have resulted in increased focus on slope stability, waste dump and landslides.
This short term course will centre around imparting knowledge of relevant case studies and different types of mechanisms in applications of slope stability. More emphasis will be laid on the practical problems and the parameters affecting the stability, and how they can be dealt with in a field situation.
The course content is as follows:
Design of opencast/ openpit
-Slope in hard rock
-Slope in soft rock
- Impact of blasting on slope stability
- Slope Instrumentation
- Numerical Modeling
- Laboratory Testing
Panel Discussion on real-life problems presented by participants
Students can actively participate by sharing information about slope stability problems faced by them and the measures taken by their organizations for the same.
The course will be moderated by eminent faculty members with proven knowledge. Practical operational personnel, mine planners, mining engineers, geologists, researchers, academicians etc can attend this course. IIT- Kharagpur will issue certificates to each participant.
Interested candidates can apply latest by 11th September 2015.
Participants will be provided with accomodation on payment basis at the Technology Guest House.
The participation fees for taking the course fee is Rs. 25,000/- per participant which includes the course material, laboratory use for tutorials, transportation, course dinner, refreshments etc.
