IIT MBA Admission 2018

IIT MBA Admission 2018-20 – Indian Institutes of Technology are among the most reputed and famous institutions of higher education in India. These are autonomous bodies and are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act; 1961whic certifies them the Institutions of National Importance. At present there are total 23 IITs functional in the country. IITs are famous for their technological education as well as world class management courses. Out of these IITs, there are 7 IITs which are offering management programs including Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Following are the IITs which offer MBA programs:

  • Indian Institute of Technology, Madras
  • Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (Department of Management Studies)
  • Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur/MHRM – HSS (Vinod Gupta School of Management)
  • Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (Department of Management Studies)
  • Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (SJMSOM)
  • Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
  • Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

 IITs accept admission in management programs on the basis of Common Admission Test (CAT) scores. There is always a variation in the admission criteria of IITs. The institutes select the candidates who will be able to satisfy the eligibility criteria for admission. Hence, it is really important to understand IIT MBA admission criteria of IIT MBA.

IIT MBA Admission 2018-20

On the basis of CAT scores, the profiles of the interested candidates are selected. The profiles are analyzed and after analysis, these candidates are selected for further rounds of group discussion and personal interview. Candidates will be selected for admission to IITs based on their overall performance in CAT exam, group discussion and personal interview.

In order to take admission in MBA, a candidate is required to have done graduation from a recognized university which is incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other academicinstitutions which are established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1965 or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

As we mentioned above, every IIT has its own norms of admission in MBA programs. So let’s have a look at the admission norms of IITs individually.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

A graduate degree is must as discussed above. Apart from this, the candidate should have scored an aggregate of 60% marks in all the semesters/years or should have scored at minimum of 6.76CGPA on the scale of 10 points. If a candidate belongs to SC or ST category, there is a relaxation of 5% marks which is minimum 55%. For PH Candidates, there are different institute rules.

GD and PI process is generic as it will take place in every IIT after a candidate is shortlisted on the basis of CAT 2017.

Fee Structure of IIT Delhi

A candidate has to pay Rs. 8 Lacs for full time MBA programs which is payable in equal installments of 4 semesters. For self – financing Foreign National Students the total fee for two years is $16000 which means $4000 per semester.

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

For taking admission in MBA at IIT Madras, following are the basic factors which are to be evaluated:

  • CAT 2017 Score
  • Previous Academic Performance
  • Work Experience
  • Gender Diversity

The institute will shortlist the candidates on the basis of the composite score. There will be relaxation to the reserved categories as per the guidelines given by Government of India.

The shortlisted candidates will be called for group talk and personal interview. The final score will be calculated on the basis of performance in group talk and written communication, personal interview and the composite score.

The total fee of MBA at IIT Madras is 4 Lakhs.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur

  • The basic step is to appear for CAT 2017 which is conducted by IIM. A candidate belonging to general category are required to have scored 85% or above percentile in their CAT exam. And they should have at least 65% and above score in X and XII classes examinations.
  • A candidate with mathematics subject in XII class, B.Tech or B.E. or B. Arch or four year bachelors program with mathematics as one subject in UG. Or MSc with mathematics in UG program or MA in Economics with mathematics in UG with an aggregate of 65% marks or 6.5 CPI on scale of 10 from any AICTE approved college/university/IITs/NITs/IIITs.
  • For candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, there is a relaxation of 5% percentile. Candidates who satisfy all the criteria mentioned above with 55% marks or a CPI with 5.5 are eligible.  
  • The total fee of IIT Kanpur is Rs. 2.91 Lacs.

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (Shailesh J Mehta School of Management)

In order to take admission in MBA at IIT Bombay a candidate is required to have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any discipline and must have scored at least 60% where as5% score in case of SC/ST candidates or the candidates should have got at least 6.5 CPI out of 10 while it is 6 CPI in case of SC/ST.  A candidate having professional degree such as CA/CWA along with Graduation with at least 50% marks which 55% in case of SC/ST. The final year candidates can also apply and the candidates who are waiting the result are also eligible.

The total tuition fee of MBA at IIT Bombay is 2.14 Lakhs per semester.

Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee   

for IIT MBA admission 2018 at Roorkee, the candidate is required to be a graduate in any academic background (engineering/technology with 1st class) or a candidate having first class in any discipline form a recognized university. Candidates in final year of graduation will also be given provisional admission. Candidate belonging to general category are required to have a minimum of 6.00 CGPA or 60% marks. For SC/ST candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% percentile in the qualifying examinations.

The total program fee of MBA program fee of IIT Roorkee is Rs. 2, 00,000 per semester. The fee doesn’t include security, mess security, mess charges or any other charges.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

A candidate seeking admission in MBA at IIT Kharagpur should hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology or should hold Master’s degree in Science/Economic/Commerce with Statistics or Mathematics in graduation can apply. Candidates should have a score of 60% in qualifying degree for General and OBC categories or a CGPA of 6.5 on scale of 10. Candidate belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories have a relaxation of 5% in all qualifying degrees. Persons with physical disabilities are required to appear before a medical board on or before October 31, 2017 at IIT Kharagpur.

The total tuition fee of MBA at IIT Kharagpur is 1.54 Lakhs per semester.

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

Candidates can also take admission in MBA at IISc Bangalore. A candidate, who is looking for taking IISc MBA Admission Bangalore, needs to meet out the following criteria:

  • The candidate should hold a B. Tech/B.E. degree with first class score.
  • A good score in CAT 2017 exam or GATE is mandatory.
  • Final year candidates can also apply and will be given provisional admission. If they are able to pass their graduation with the required marks, they will be considered.

The flagship program offered by IISc Bangalore is known as Master of Management (M. Mgt).The main objective of this program is to teach the students about the analytics which are utilized in business, management and technological administration.

The total tuition fee of MBA at IISc Bangalore is 1.66 Lakh for General and OBC candidates whereas Rs. 66,300 for SC/ST candidates.

There are several institutions in the country which are offering MBA. Hence, before taking admission in MBA, the candidate should do proper research. In this context, IITs are not just famous for engineering programs but they are also similarly popular for its management programs. These institutions also rank in top B – schools of the country.
