IITs to Conduct JEE Advanced 2017 on May 21

The exam date for the much-anticipated IIT JEE Advanced 2017 has been announced. The exam that screens students for admissions to various engineering courses offered at Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIITs will be held on May 21. 2017.

In a meeting held at IIT Madras by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) on September 18, the date for the JEE Advanced examination was decided. However, the date for JEE Main 2017 exam was not declared.

The Board also decided to reduce the aggregate cut-off percentage for candidates belonging to SC/ ST categories from 70% to 65%. 

Moreover, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions has issued guidelines according to which OBC-NCL certificates that have been issued after April 1, 2017, will stand valid for JEE Advanced 2017.

Projecting the increased number of seats available at IITs across the country, the board members increased the number of candidates who will appear for JEE Advanced in 2017 to 220,000 giving 20,000 more candidates chances to be eligible for the exam.  However, all candidates will have to clear IIT JEE Main to be eligible to appear for JEE advanced examination 2017.

Further, candidates from abroad or foreign countries will also be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced 2017 for admissions to various IITs across India. 

The Board also decided to incorporate various interactive features including video tutorials and SMS services to help candidates facing issues during various stages of admission including registration, application fee payment, admit card, result announcement, counselling, etc.
