IISc has been ranked 8th in the top ten small universities of the world.
Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has been placed eighth in the list of top ten small universities of the world. This ranking has come in from a new assessment that was done by the Times Higher Education. The list has three institutions each from Italy and France. The Italian universities are Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa in fifth place, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in sixth and Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, tenth.
The French Universities in the list are École Normale Supérieure in the second place, followed by École Polytechnique in the fourth place and École Normale Supérieure de Lyon in the seventh place.
The publication, Times Higher Education, defines small universities as those that have less than 5,000 students and are involved in teaching and researching more than four disciplines.
An official from the publication said that the ranking of the best small universities of the world, 2017 shows that the small universities are providing a higher student satisfaction and better student- professor relationships.
She further said that more students are attracted to a small sized class, higher teacher to student ratios and a more closed community like feeling, which a small university is able to provide the students.
