Jamia Millia Islamia University conducts ‘Guftgu’ – A Democratic Space for Open Discussion

Jamia Collective conducted ‘Guftgu’- A Democratic Space for Open Discussion, on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Syedain Manzil-Near Faculty of Education. The topic for discussion was ‘Discrimination against Dalits & Minority Students in the Indian Education System’. A large number of students and professors actively participated in the open discussion. The key speaker for the event was Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat.



Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat is an economist and was the former chairman of the University Grants Commission. Prof Thorat graduated from Milind College of Arts, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, obtained an M.A. in Economics from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, M. Phil/Ph. D in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Diploma in Economic Planning, Main School of Planning, Warsaw, Poland.

Jamia Collective is a recently initiated platform of artists, intellectuals and activists to promote diversity, pluralism and constitutional values by Jamia Millia Islamia University.

Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMIU) is one the best Universities of the NCR. It was declared as a ‘Deemed to be University’ by University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1962. JMIU acquired a title of ‘Central University of India’ by a Special Act of Parliament in 1988. It offers numerous courses at UG, PG and Doctorate level.
