Jamia University Hosts Mirass 2016

The inauguration of Mirass was conducted on February 16 by the Vice Chancellor Talat Ahmad.

MIRASS the national inter-universities cultural festival of Jamia Millia Islamia University successfully held between February 16 and 18, 2016 at Ansari Auditorium of Jamia.
MiRASS was inaugurated by Prof, Talat Ahmad the Vice Chancellor of Jamia at 9:30 a.m. on February 16th. The event was overwhelmed with huge audience. He addressed the audience, participants specially thanked to the Cultural Committee of Jamia and Ms. Tasleem Minai the president of Cultural Committee of Jamia for organizing such a wonderful event. 
On the first day competitions such as poetry competition and recitation, Indian classical vocal (solo), big quiz, Western vocal (solo) were organised by the Cultural Committee of Jamia. 
The poetry Competition & Recitation was started at 11:30 a.m. in Nelson Mandela Centre of Peace and Conflict Resolution of Jamia. The Judges were Dr. Rahman Muassawiri of Jamia from Dept. of Hindi, Dr. Akhlaq Khan of JNU from Dept. of Urdu, Mr. Abdul Hameed from Dept of English from Delhi University. It was followed by Big Quiz Competition on the same day. In this out of 26 team only 4 selected for Screening. The Indian classical vocal competition was started on 3 p.m.
On 2nd day of MiRASS competitions like National Trilingual debate on the topic “this House believes that lowering the age for juvenile delinquency in India will  be a step in their right direction” (In English, Hindi, Urdu) , NUKKAD-street play, book cover design competition and creative writing competition (Urdu, Hindi, English).
Students from Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, JNU, Kurukshetra University etc. were participated in the debate competition for and against the motion.
Nukkad Natak competition started by 10 a.m at lawn of Ansari Auditorium. Out of 32, 14 team selected for screening. Book cover design competition held on 10:30 a.m. at Nelson Mandela Peace and Conflict Resolution. There were 25 students from different univercities across the country such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, Ali Garh Muslim University etc.  
The last day of Mirass had witnessed the events such as Baitbaazi, Indian classical dances, Folk dances, Valedictory session followed by prize distributions.
The Valedictory session for 5th National Tri-lingual Debate was conducted in presence Mr. Salman Khursheed, the former External Affairs of India, and the guest of honour Rajesh Priyedarshi, Online web editor BCC. Mr. Khursheed and Priyedarshi emphasized on the debate as an integral part of our life and also necessary for the rich culture of the nation. Delhi University bagged the winning trophy in Debate competition for Hindi language, while Ali Garh Muslim University won it for English and Urdu language.
