IITs, NITs, JEE Advanced 2016

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati will conduct JEE Advanced 2016, according to official sources.

Once the events are finalized internally, the important dates will be released officially. As of now, JEE Advanced 2016 is expected to be held on May 22, 2016.

Every year, JEE Advanced is conducted by the seven zonal IITs with guidance from the Joint Admission Board (JAB) for admission to coveted technology and engineering institutes of the country.

The top 1.5 lakh candidates who qualify in the JEE (Main) are eligible to take the JEE (Advanced).

Meanwhile, it is being said that the IITs may soon go back to single entrance test system from the two-step process introduced in 2012 as part of the previous UPA government’s examination reforms, in a bid to cut selection delays and administrative hassles.

The two-phase entrance test that comprises the JEE (Main) and the IIT-JEE (Advanced) came up for discussion at a meeting of the JAB recently and a committee was formed to review the system.

Under the two-phase test introduced in 2012, the JEE (Main) is the first stage that also forms the basis for selection to the NITs, IIITs and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Those who clear this test appear for the JEE (Advanced) conducted exclusively for the IITs.

If the system is done away with, it will be another UPA-introduced decision on examination reforms scrapped by the NDA government.
