How JoSAA Conducts JEE Main Counselling?

For students appearing in JEE Main 2017, JoSAA will manage the counselling process after the results are out. The process of registration for counselling may tentatively start at the beginning of the month of July. JoSAA will perform JEE Main counselling & seat allotment 2017 for 22 IITs, ISM, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs, and 18 GFTIs. The process is conducted online. Students qualifying in JEE Main can attend the counselling for all of these institutions, except ISM and IITs for which they need to qualify the next stage of the exam, which is JEE Advanced.

The Counselling and Seat Allotment Process

At the JEE Main counselling stage, the qualified students of JEE Main are allotted a course and college per seat availability during the specific counselling time. JEE Main counselling & seat allotment takes place along with the counselling of JEE Advanced. The process is held in accordance with the list of merit. Thus, students with higher scores are more likely to get the college and course of their choice. Counselling for JEE Main 2017 will be done in six rounds. However, qualified students rejecting their seats will not be given a chance to attend the further rounds. Check the following stages JEE Main counselling goes through:

• Stage 1:

Online Registration –All qualified candidates in JEE Main can register for seat allotment in all institutions, except IITs and ISM. Those qualified in JEE Advanced can register for seat allotment in all institutions. To do an online registration for JEE Main 2017 counselling & seat allotment, you should visit the official website and login with your JEE Main roll number and password. Read the given instructions and click on the “I Agree” button to launch the counselling registration form. Fill in all relevant details, select the Declaration, and click on the Submit button to submit your form. Then, verify all the information you have filled in and click on Confirm Registration if everything is correct.

• Stage 2:

Filling In and Locking of Choices –It is very important to fill as many choices of institutes and branches as possible. You may give your choices in the decreasing order of preference. Choose the Choice Available option and select the institute type, name, and the programme applying for. Then, click on the Choice Filling & Locking option by choosing the desired courses and colleges. You can also edit or delete your choices before you lock them. This should be done before the last date by clicking on Lock Choice. After locking, you will not be able to change your choices. However, you can lock your upgraded choices after every round of JEE Main counselling & seat allotment.

Stage 3:

Allotment of Seats –At this stage, JoSAA considers certain factors before allotting the most suitable seat per your locked choices. These factors include the checking of your category (Gen, OBC-NCL, SC, etc.), All India Rank, the priority of your choices, seat availability in varied seat categories/seat quotas per your eligibility, and business norms. About seat allotment, you are intimated after a few days through a message on your registered email ID or mobile phone number. Once JEE Main 2017 counselling & seat allotment is done, you will have to download the seat allotment letter.

• Stage 4:

Payment of Fee to Accept the Seat: To accept your seat, you will have to pay the seat acceptance fee through an e-challan or SBI net banking. Then, you will have to visit any reporting centre and get your documents verified towards the provisional acceptance of your seat. However, you will need to indicate your seat acceptance or participation in next round through certain options. Find out the options you will have to fill in:
