JEE Main 2018 Eligibility Criteria for IITs and NITs – The Joint Entrance Exam (Main) is the most sought after engineering entrance examination in India. Aspirants appearing for JEE Main 2018 can seek admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and various other engineering colleges in India. The JEE Main Examination 2018 is likely to be held in April 2018. Eligible candidates can submit their completely filled online application form from December 2017. If any of the candidates is found ineligible, their candidature will be cancelled immediately. Date of Birth

Students who are born on or after October 1, 1993, are eligible to apply for JEE Main.

Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) should have been born on or after October 1, 1988. Candidates of these categories have been given a relaxation of 5 years.

Qualifying exam

Aspirants should have passed class 12th or the qualifying exam in 2016 or 2017. Students, who are appearing in class 12th or the qualifying exam in 2017, can also apply.

For students to qualify for admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other such CFTIs, they should have secured at least 75% marks in class 12th, or be in the top 20 percentile in class 12th exams conducted by the respective board.

For reserved category students, the qualifying marks would be 65% for class 12th exam.

Total subjects/Subject combination

It is compulsory for aspiring candidates to have taken 5 subjects in class 12th or the qualifying exam

The 5 subjects for B.E./B.Tech are:

1-Language

2-Physics

3-Mathematics

4-Any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject)

5-Any other subjects

For B.Arch/B.Planning, Mathematics subject along with 50% marks in total including five subjects.

The total number of attempts

A JEE Main 2018 aspirant can avail 3 attempts for the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam.

Note: Students must note that there will be no weightage of class 12th marks in calculating the All India Rank of JEE Main 2018.

List of Qualifying Examinations for JEE Main 2018

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognised Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, etc.
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognised Board/University.
  • The final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • H.S.C. vocational examination. (Only for Admission to IITs)
  • A Diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of technical education of at least 3-year duration. (Only for Admission to IITs)
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. (Only for Admission to IITs)
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva. (Only for Admission to IITs)
  • In case the relevant QE is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level. (Only for Admission to IITs)
