AICTE Chairman confirms that thinking of making JEE-Main as the only test for filling engineering seats in colleges throughout India is there but the move is unlikely anytime soon.
The news about National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET Exam) to be made the single entrance test to fill MBBS and BDS seats in medical colleges throughout India is doing the rounds of the web for a considerable time now. It made uproar after Supreme Court directive for the same. President of India signed a signed an ordinance on May 24, 2016 and put the discussion to rest for at least one good year.
Now since hullabaloo over NEET seems to have subsided, news about All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) – the apex body governing engineering colleges – is considering NEET exam like common entrance test for filling up engineering seats in colleges throughout India. In other words, AICTE is considering to make JEE-Main as a single entrance test for undergraduate BE courses. Currently, JEE-Main is the first step towards getting enrolled into the premier institutions like IIT, NITs, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT).
Though the AICTE Chairman Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe confirmed that there was thinking on the similar line yet nothing concrete can be expected on the same even by the next academic year. There was thinking, but nothing will be up anytime soon, he confirmed. Talking about the same Anil said that some of the states already consider JEE-Main score to admit students to their engineering colleges. However, implementation of one exam for the whole country would surely need the alignment of syllabus as long as we are serious about providing every student with an equal opportunity.
Since the thinking is there, JEE-Main could come out to be NEET Exam like one entrance test for filling up engineering seats in colleges across India sooner or later.
