After re-evaluation of Class XII marks, many students saw a rise in their JEE Main 2015 ranks
Many students have witnessed an increase in their JEE Main 2015 ranks after revaluation of their CBSE Class 12 Board Examination marks from many state boards. This error was recognized in the beginning of July and has now been rectified with CBSE releasing its revised rank list on Friday on its website. However, no official notification was made by the authorities regarding the same.
A marginal rise in CBSE Class 12 Board Exam marks for a few has resulted in the rise of ranks by hundreds or even thousand in certain specific cases. Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), responsible for the admission process and counseling of the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), has declared that eligible candidates will be allotted seats according to their choice, if they have entered their choices in a decreasing order of preference.
There is enough criticism on this as many students had filled out their preferences based on their original ranks and are disallowed from re-filling their choices. Another reason for discontentment is that counseling has begun, first round of seat allotment is already over and second round is underway. In response to this, a JoSAA official said, "There is a provision of supernumerary seats in NITs for students whose ranks rise after re-evaluation. Revised ranks will be considered and students will get a seat in the institutes they desire according to their new ranks, provided they have filled their choices in a decreasing order of preferences. They should have considered the possibility of a rise in ranks."
The third round of seat allocation will be released on July 18, 2015 and seat acceptance will begin July 19.
