'Marketing Connects' with Anuja Chauhan @ FMS, Delhi University

FMS students catch up with Anuja on her journey from an advertiser, marketer to an author!

Advertising and marketing are often, conveniently used in the same breath by people who haven’t experienced either of the two domains. To clarify this notion, MarkSoc, the Marketing Society of Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (FMS) invited Miss Anuja Chauhan as the opening speaker of a year-long initiative to engage with Corporates, called ‘Marketing Connects’. Students of FMS Delhi were in for a treat at her visit; they knew how important connecting with her was to realise their dreams of becoming marketing gurus at some point in their careers! They met Anuja to discuss advertising, marketing & entrepreneurship and secret to being a Content evangelist.  

Miss Anuja Chauhan is the former Creative Director at JW Thompson, one of the best advertising agencies across the world. Miss Chauhan has been the mastermind behind hugely popular campaigns such as “Yeh Dil Maange More”, “Darr ke Aage Jeet Hai”, “Nothing Official about it” and many others in the course of an illustrious career. In 2010, Miss Chauhan left JWT to pursue a full time career in writing and has written national bestsellers such as “The Zoya Factor”, “Those Pricey Thakur Girls” amongst others. She is often described as ‘the best writer of the Indian commercial fiction genre’.

The session was moderated by Professor Harsh Verma, one of the most respected faculty for marketing not only at FMS but across the country. Miss Chauhan walked down the memory lane to speak about her career in advertising and the stories behind her powerful catchphrases and slogans in her 17 years at JWT.

The icing on the cake was when Miss Chauhan did a short book reading from her latest, “The House the BJ Built”, which has been brilliantly written, before signing copies for students who were clearly enthralled by the session.

One of the most fascinating sessions that FMS has organized with corporates, this rendezvous with Ms. Chauhan gave the FMS students an interesting sneak peek into the life of an advertiser, how creativity prods them day in, day out and the huge contrasts between marketing and advertising, as they present a seamless transition to people who savour popular TV commercials at home.
