MAT 2018 Exam Pattern

Along with the exam notification, AIMA announces the MAT exam pattern. The structure of Management Aptitude Test has remained same from past few years, no major changes have been made to it. MAT is a basic aptitude test which simply aims at analyzing the intellect of the exam taker. Exam is held 4 times a year and in both, computer based and paper based mode. The offline MAT 2018 February exam has been held on February 4 and now the CBT exam will be conducted on February 17. The candidates taking this test must ensure that they have clarity of the exam structure as it will help them prepare well. The test pattern provides details of the number of sections, questions, duration and marking scheme etc. According to MAT 2018 exam pattern, total 200 multiple choice questions (MCQs) will be asked in the exam. Candidates will be given 150 minutes to answer these questions.

Having knowledge of MAT exam pattern 2018 will help the candidates have smart study, exactly from the exam point of view and thus will save a lot of time. MAT 2018 Exam Pattern

The MAT exam 2018 question paper will have objective type questions, where every question will have 4 options and the candidates will have to mark one correct answer. Usually answering MCQs becomes easier for the exam takers where negative marking is not involved as they can easily play the guess game. However, with MAT it is not the case, the guessing game may lead to obtaining a low score as 0.25 marks will be deducted for marking a single answer. 

To crack the test with good score, candidates are required to attempt the exam smartly. They must have an understanding of the MAT 2018 exam pattern in order to frame an exam taking strategy. The candidates must go through the facets of MAT exam from the information given below.

To do well in the exam, the candidates must focus on accuracy of maximum number of questions. They must not run after attempting all the 200 questions but do less in given time and do them correctly. MAT Exam Pattern 2018 - Duration



According to the MAT 2018 test pattern, the duration of the test will be 150 minutes or 2.5 hours. There is no sectional time duration. However, time for each part is suggested in the table given in above section.

MAT Exam Pattern 2018 - Marking Scheme

Along with the exam pattern of MAT 2018, it is essential to know about the marking scheme for candidates. It will help them to form a strategy in the exam.

Below is the marking scheme of MAT exam 2018 –

  • For each correct answer- one mark will be awarded
  • For each incorrect answer- 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer
  • Total marks of test- 200
  • Scaled marks will be given out of 800
