MHRD Cleanest College Ranking, MHRD has released the cleanest college ranking for 2017 under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

After introducing you all with some of the most beautiful college campuses here in India, now it’s time for the cleanest ones. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has released Swachhta Ranking 2017 of Higher Educational Institution. The list that comes from the MHRD has been categorized into Universities, Colleges, Technical Institutes as well as Government ones. The function for the same was held in Delhi wherein the MHRD minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar distributed the prizes to the winning institutes (Government or Private).

Approximately 3500 Higher education institutes have sent nominations through online invitation by filling and submitting all their details as per the format provided. As per the criteria, top 174 institutes were shortlisted. The officials from the AICTE and UGC inspected the premises of all the shortlisted institutes and these institutes were awarded on the occasion. The exercise is aimed at generating the peer pressure among students in the areas of cleanliness.

This programme was further to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which is one of the most significant and vigorously pursued campaigns of the Indian Government currently. In this campaign so far, the government of India has constructed 4 crore and eight lakh toilets since October 2, 2014; whereas more than 2 lakh villages are now open defecation free.

MHRD’s Cleanest College Campuses in India: Selection Criteria

The list of cleanest colleges that MHRD released on September 15, 2017 was based on many parameters considered before giving such a rank. The government has measured the colleges/institutes on many parameters that include, but surely not confined to, student-toilet ratio, cleanliness in kitchen, the modernity of kitchen as well as toilet equipment, campus green cover, availability of running water, garbage disposal in the hostel and academic buildings. Besides this, the garbage disposal techniques, water supply systems and also to some extent if the institution has adopted any neighbouring locality or village for that matter to make them familiar with cleanliness activities that they need to undertake on regular basis. Therefore, the criteria for evaluation and pointers considered were as under:

  • Water
  • Toilets
  • Hand-washing with soap
  • Operation and Maintenance
  • Behaviour Changes and Capability Building

Basis the above parameters, colleges and schools have been given ratings as under.
