NATA 2017: A Complete Guide

NATA 2017 or National Aptitude Test in Architecture is a national level entrance examination, conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA) to carry admissions process in law colleges across India. The exam tests a candidate’s ability and aptitude as per the skills required for an architecture course.

CoA will organise the upcoming NATA examination in two phases over a period of five months. The exam will take place on April 16, 2017, as a single day examination. The exam registrations have commenced from January 2, 2017.

NATA examination consists of two parts – offline drawing test and online aesthetic sensitivity test. The drawing test will consist of three questions while the sensitivity test will consist of 40 multiple-choice questions. There is no provision of negative marking in sensitivity test.

NATA 2017 Application Forms:

The NATA registrations have commenced from January 2, 2017. Aspiring candidates can fill-in the online registration forms on the official web portal of NATA 2017. They will have to enter the desired details and pay the registration fee for successful registration. All candidates are advised to fill-in the online registration forms before the registration closes.

NATA 2017 Registration Fee:

In order to complete the NATA 2017 registrations successfully, each candidate should pay a registration fee of INR 1250 excluding additional transaction charges. The registration fee can be paid online only using a credit card, debit card or net banking. Registration fee can also be paid offline through cash at a nearest ICICI Bank branch.

NATA 2017 Eligibility Criteria:

All candidates applying for NATA 2017 examination should have cleared SSC or class 10th or equivalent examination from any recognised board. However, candidates who have secured a minimum of 50% marks in 10+2 or equivalent examination are only eligible to apply for B.Arch course. In addition, there is no provision for direct or lateral admission to B.Arch course.

A candidate’s NATA score remains valid for two years duration, from the year in which he appeared for the exam. Each candidate can make a maximum of five attempts within these two years from the date of the first attempt.

CoA has the official authority to issue official notification regarding the examination dates and application procedure. The council has released the dates reagSince the Council has not released any notification, aspiring candidates can refer to the tentative list of important dates given below, based on NATA 2016 examination.

NATA 2017 Exam Pattern:

NATA examination comprises of two parts. The first part comprises of a paper-based drawing test while the second part requires the candidate to appear for an aesthetic sensitivity test. As part of the drawing test, candidates will have two answers three questions within 120 minutes. On the other hand, the aesthetic sensitive test will comprise of 40 multiple-choice questions. Each candidate will get a maximum of 90 seconds to answer one multiple-choice question.
 
Candidates should also note that aesthetic sensitivity test does not have a negative marking system.

NATA 2017 Syllabus:

The drawing test of NATA exam will evaluate the candidate’s ability of understanding of proportion and scaling, sense of perspective drawing, sketching a given object, etc. On the other hand, the aesthetic sensitivity test will consist of questions based on Imaginative Expression, Analytical Reasoning, Mental Ability, Architectural Awareness, Imaginative Comprehensive etc.

NATA 2017 Admit Card:

The admit cards for NATA 2017 will be made available to candidates at the time of registrations. Applicants will be able to download admit cards from the official web portal of NATA after registering themselves successfully. The admit card will contain information on candidate’s name, candidate’s id, test date, test venue, test time, appointment number etc. Applicants are advised to carry their admit card to the test venue on the day of the NATA examination. Candidates without an admit card will be denied appearing for the exam.

NATA 2017 Results:

The results of NATA 2017 examination will be made available to applicants by June 10, 2017. All candidates should take printouts of their scorecard after downloading it from the official web portal of NATA. They are also advised to keep the original scorecard safe, as it will be retrieved during the counselling.

NATA 2017 Counselling:

The counselling schedule of NATA will be announced after NATA 2017 examination results are on the official website. Only candidates who have obtained a minimum of 40% score in the exam will be eligible to come for counselling.
 
All candidates are advised to check the counselling schedule in advance and come for their counselling on time. They should also pre-decide the colleges they would like to apply. They should carry the documents required at the time of counselling including NATA 2017 scorecard, mark sheets of class 10th and 12th, caste certificate, etc.
