NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria - The first and foremost step before applying for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is to check the eligibility criteria for NEET to apply for MBBS and BDS courses. NEET is the one and only national level medical examination conducted for aspirants to seek admission in MBBS and BDS courses offered by various medical and dental colleges in the country. The NEET eligibility criteria are declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria is the most important thing aspirants must check before filling up the NEET application form. Knowing the criterion in advance helps avoid hassles later. The scores secured in the exam are acceptable at all top medical colleges and dental colleges in India. Let’s have a look at the detailed NEET eligibility criteria.

NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Here we have detailed the NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria to make students familiar with it. Aspirants are requested to read the criterion carefully and ensure that they satisfy all the requirements.

Eligibility criteria for 15% All India Quota Seats

  • As stated in the NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria, the candidate should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or should complete the age on or before December 31, 2018.
  • The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission under 15% All India Quota Seats is 25 years as on December 31, 2018. Further, provided that this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward-Classes.

The criterion for candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and J&K

  • As per NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria, Students from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J&K are not eligible for the 15% All India quota seats as these States had opted out of All India Scheme since its inception. If they claim eligibility, they must submit a Self Declaration online, which will be generated and printed automatically along with the confirmation page for the record and to must be present during the counseling.
  • The online Self Declaration of the candidates will be verified at the time of counseling and if found to be false at any time, the candidature/admission of such candidates shall be canceled and criminal proceedings may be initiated against them.
  • Candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J&K can appear in the NEET exam for admission to Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, subject to the fulfillment of NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria.

Eligibility criteria for seats under the control of States/Universities/AFMC

  • As per NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria, the candidate should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or should complete the age on or before December 31, 2018.
  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges subject to the rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments and the Government of India.
  • The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission under seats in the control of participating States/Universities/Institutions shall be as per their rules and regulations.

Qualifications and Qualification Examination Codes for NEET 2018

Code 1

According to NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria, candidates who are appearing in 10+2 examination in 2018 and whose result is awaited can appear in NEET 2018 but they are not eligible for admissions if they don't pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage.

Code 2

The senior secondary education (SSE) or the Indian school certificate examination (ISCE) after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study consists of Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Biotechnology or Mathematics or any other elective subject with English.

Code 3

The intermediate/pre-degree exam in Science of an Indian university or any other recognized examination body with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as compulsory subjects.

Code 4

The pre-professional/pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English after passing either at higher secondary, pre-university examinations or an equivalent examination. This should also include practical tests in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.

Code 5

The first year of the three years of a degree from a recognized University with Chemistry, Physics and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests and also have studied English.

Code 6

B.Sc exam from an Indian university provided that a candidate has passed the B.Sc exam with not less than two of the subjects, namely, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology. Besides, a candidate must have also passed the earlier qualification with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.

Code 7

As per NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria, any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate Science examination of an Indian University/Board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects including practical tests in each subject.

NEET 2018 Exam Pattern

Those who want to pursue NEET 2018 exam for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses must have a look at the NEET Exam Pattern first.

  • NEET 2018 will be a pen and paper based examination.
  • Candidates will have to mark their answers on the OMR sheet using a ball-point pen.
  • The duration of the examination will be 3 hours.
  • There will be a total of 180 questions spread across three sections: Physics - 45, Chemistry - 45, Biology - 90.
  • Each correct answer will be given 4 marks.
  • There will be a deduction of 1 mark for incorrect answers.
  • No marks will be deducted for un-attempted questions.
  • NEET 2018 will be conducted in 10 languages: English, Hindi, Oriya, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali and Assamese.

NEET 2018 Cut-Off

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has set the NEET 2018 Eligibility Criteria. Similarly, they have also set a minimum qualifying percentile for admissions to medical and dental colleges in the country. NEET 2018 cut-off will be announced in the month of June 2018.
