NIFT 2018 Syllabus: NIFT is a national level entrance examination that is organized by National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai. It is a gateway to invite interested and eligible candidates to take admission in a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the field of fashion technology and design. NIFT exam is one of the most coveted examinations for all the design and fashion aspirants. NIFT 2018 Syllabus: Understanding the Exam Pattern

Not only knowing NIFT 2018 Syllabus but understanding NIFT exam pattern is equally important too. This will help students know what type of questions will be asked and above all, the format of question paper. This further helps in developing a better approach to attempt the question paper in a more efficient and effective ways possible. Therefore, presenting in the following lines the NIFT 2018 exam pattern for the convenience of the students. 

  1. NIFT 2017 is a pen-paper based exam (offline mode).
  2. The examination will be divided into two parts- General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT).
  3. Test duration will be 2 hours (120 minutes).
  4. All the UG and PG aspirants will need to appear for GAT and CAT exam.
  5. The total number of questions in the paper will be 150.
  6. There is no negative marking in the paper.

NIFT 2018 Test Structure

General Ability Test (GAT) for Bachelor of Technology  (B.F.Tech), Master of Fashion Management (MFM), Master of Design (M.Des) and Master of Fashion (M.F.Tech) will have the following sections:

Creative Ability Test (CAT) judges the intuition skills, the power of innovation and observation in a development of a concept and design ability of the candidate. An important factor of the test is the creative use of colours and illustration skills.

NIFT 2018 Syllabus

As per NIFT 2018 syllabus, the paper will be divided into two parts including General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT). Let us look at both of them individually.

General Ability Test (GAT)

The test will comprise of the following sections/questions-

  • Effective Communication
  • Leadership Qualities
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs
  • Problem Solving Approach

Creative Ability Test (CAT)

In NIFT 2018 syllabus, CAT test will examine the power of observation, creativity, discernment ability and design ability of the candidate. It also checks the applicant’s ability to use different colours and utilize creativity thought process in graphic skills.

A Situation Test for shortlisted candidates will be conducted to evaluate candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given set of materials. No additional material will be provided to the candidates. The candidates will be judged on their space visualization, innovative and creative use of given material, the composition of elements, construction skills, colour scheme, the finesse of the model and overall presentation.

Another level of the selection process will include Group Discussion. It will comprise of approximately 15-20 minute discussion on a case study, on which a panel of experts will assess the aspirant on the following basis.

The last step of the selection procedure will be a personal interview (PI), which will be judged on the basis of the following-
