The Amendment Bill focuses at establishing the National Institute of Technology in Andhra Pradesh as an institute of national importance.
The Parliament has finally passed the National Institute of Technology, Science Education and Research Amendment Bill, 2016 that aims at establishing NIT as an institute of national importance. The Bill was first passed in Lok Sabha in July 2016 and then Rajya Sabha in August 2016 by voice vote. NIT, Andhra Pradesh started functionings in the year 2015.
NIT, Science Education & Research Amendment Bill, 2016 Highlights
• The Bill seeks to establish the National Institute of Technology, Andhra Pradesh as an institute of national importance.
• The NIT, Andhra Pradesh will now is established under the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007.
• According to the Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, there will be no shortfall of funds for establishing NIT in Andhra Pradesh.
• The Ministry aims at establishing more such institutes in the future and make education more standardized, considering a large number of candidates appearing for NITs and IITs in India.
National Institute of Technology, Andhra Pradesh
The National Institute of Technology was established in September 2015 and is the 31st institute amongst the National Institutes of Technology initiated by the Government of India. It is located in Tadepalligudem, Andhra Pradesh. The NIT, Andhra Pradesh started functioning from the academic year 2015-16. It has now received the status of institute of national importance. The institute provides undergraduate programme including Bachelor of Technology with specializations in eight courses.
Recently, other Bills were signed including the Indian Medical Council Amendment Bill, 2016 and the Dentists Amendment Bill 2016 resulting in putting NEET as an All India Exam for admission in medical and dental courses across India.
