B. Tech Electrical Engineering Specialisations in NITs

Once students have made the NITs Cutoff for B. Tech Electrical Engineering and have successfully passed their bachelor’s final examination, they will be able to choose their area of study at the master’s level and beyond. Different NITs offers several specialisations so it’s important for candidates to go through the courses offered. Some of them include Power Systems, Power Electronics & Machine Drives, Control System Engineering, Instrumentation and Signal Processing, etc. Before being able to pursue a master’s in electrical engineering at NIT, students will need to clear the GATE exam and attempt to achieve higher percentiles as competition is intense.

B. Tech Electrical Engineering Eligibility for NITs

Admission into B. Tech in electrical engineering requires students to meet the NITs Cutoff for B. Tech Electrical Engineering through JEE Main and achieve a high percentile. The highly competitive exam is open to students who have passed class 12 or who are appearing for their class 12 exam in 2017. Unlike in the past, no weightage will be given to class 12 marks in calculating AIR rank of JEE Main. Instead, admission to NITs through JEE Main now requires students to score a minimum of 75% marks in their class 12 exam or to be in the top 20 in the list of their respective board. SC/ST students will need to have a minimum of 65% in their class 12 examination.

Students looking to make the NITs Cutoff for B. Tech Electrical Engineering should have taken English, mathematics, physics as compulsory subjects and biotechnology, chemistry, biology or other technical vocational subjects as an optional subject.

Note: One of the several new eligibility criteria for JEE Main is that all Indian students must fill their Aadhaar Card numbers on their application forms. Aspirants who do not possess an Aadhaar Card will need to apply for one and then apply for the entrance exam. In addition, any mistakes in the Aadhaar Card will need to be rectified beforehand; otherwise, candidates may face rejection.

B. Tech Electrical Engineering Course Summary

As with other B. Tech courses pursued after completion of class 12, B. Tech in electrical engineering is for a period of 4 years. In the first year, electrical engineering students pursuing their bachelor’s degree will be introduced to the basics, such as engineering mechanics, engineering physics, and environmental studies among others. They will learn advanced concepts, such as electromagnetic theory, digital electronics, and analogue electronics, in the second year. In the third year, students will be introduced to control systems, high voltage engineering, and instrumentation to name a few. As the course nears to an end, students will have to undertake project works, summer internships, and vocational training.
