NLDIMSR Hosts a Knowledge Awareness Programme on 'Commodity Derivatives Market'

Mr. Satyajit Chattopadhyay, AVP – Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) was invited as keynote speaker for the seminar at NLDIMSR on July 18, 2016.

The Finance Forum of N. L. Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research was delighted to having Mr. Satyajit Chattopadhyay, AVP – Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) as key-note speaker for a knowledge awareness programme on “Commodity Derivatives Market” on July 18, 2016.
The speaker enlightened the knowledge of the students on the evolution and development of commodity markets. He emphasised that the most important functions of the commodity derivatives markets were price discovery and price risk management, through hedging. He also described the current commodity market in detail covering areas such as the difference between commodities and stock market, number and nature of commodities traded, benefits of trading in commodity derivatives, regulations, risk management practices and factors affecting commodity valuations. 
He gave insight on the role played by various market participants such as hedgers, arbitrageurs and also speculators who assume risks and provide depth and liquidity to the markets. He educated the students in detail about commodity derivatives, the value they add to the Indian commodities market and the role of SEBI as a regulator. He also emphasised that awareness about the functioning of commodity derivative markets is important. MCX offers MCX Certified Commodity Professional (MCCP) programme for those who want to be acquainted with and build a career in the commodity
He kept the students engaged throughout the seminar, thus, making it an interactive knowledge sharing session. The seminar ended with Prof. Dr. Anil Gor felicitating the guest.
