IIT Tirupati to get a permanent campus by 2020, say Director, IIT Tirupati. New campus will accommodate nearly 2,500 students by 2024.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Tirupati is to get a permanent campus by 2020. Currently, IIT Tirupati has been functioning from a temporary campus. Mr. K. Satyanaryana, Director, IIT Tirupati announced that the Union Cabinet has approved an amount of INR 1,070 Crores for the construction of the permanent campus of IIT Tirupati. The approval has been given for three financial years for 2017 to 2020.
The Director of the institute also added that sustainable technologies will be employed in the development of the new campus. An architect has been appointed for planning the construction of the permanent campus and college authorities are also working on the same.
Features of IIT Tirupati New Campus:
- The permanent campus will be constructed in Merlapaka Village near Venkatagiri Highway in Tirupati, AP.
- Sport facilities including indoor games, laboratories, dining facilties and hostel facilities for 600 students will be developed by 2018.
- The classrooms will be able to accommodate 1,200 students by the year 2020.
- 100% development will take place by the year 2024 post which the newly constructed IIT Tirupati campus will be able to accommodate 2,500 students.
The transit campus facility is expected to start operations by December 2017.
