PM Narendra Modi Unveils Plaque for Foundation Stone of IIIT Guwahati Campus

"21st Century is the Century of Knowledge", says Prime Minister Modi at the inauguration of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi unveiled the plaque of the foundation stone of the campus of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Guwahati in Assam on 19th January 2016.

On the occasion, he addressed the students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and National Institute of Technology (NIT) and other colleges and central universities of the North-East.

In his speech, he asserted that the 21st century is the century of knowledge. He reiterated that in the past, whenever knowledge has been the driving force of the world, India has emerged as a leader in that context. He said that India is demographically the youngest country with immense willingness to fullfil it's dreams. Hence, he said, it is a challenge and an opportunity both for our country to once again play the leading role.

According to him, the Indian economy was on an upswing and that the day was not far when India would emerge as the biggest supplier of technical manpower to the entire world.

PM also inaugurated the Electronics and ICT Academy in the IIT Guwahati campus.

Governor PB Acharya, Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Education Minister Sarat Barkataki and Union DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh were among the ones who were a part of the ceremony.

At present the IIIT is functioning from the campus of the Indian Textile Institute at Ambari. The permanent building of the IIIT under construction near the LGBI Airport and is likely to be completed by August 2017.
